3.3 engine differances?
I just aquired my brothers 1997 Dodge Intrepid, he locked it up on the way home from south Missouri the other day and I towed it to my house. Gave him $100 for it, now I may end up fixing it and driving it depending on if I can figure out what is wrong with it.
It is stuck like locked up, but I havnt taken time to make sure of what is exactly wrong. I looked up getting a new motor for it just in case, but it says the 3.3 liter motor is differant from 1994 to 95, then the ones in the 96 and 97 models. Is this true, if so what is the differances? |

RE: 3.3 engine differances?
I dont see any differences from a 1993 to a 1997 3.3 litre engine. Now if it is a3.5 litre yes cause its a 24 valve DOHC motor as opposed to the 3.3 a SOHC (single overhead cam)..

RE: 3.3 engine differances?
Ok, now I am really confused, another site I ran acrossed showed a listing for 93 to 01 but didnt say any differances. So why would hollander interchange say they are differant.

RE: 3.3 engine differances?
Dont believe everything you read. buy a haynes manual it will tell you everything you need to know.Since owning our 1994 eagle vision since day 1 i seen 93-97 visions, interpids and chrysler concorde engines are the same for a 3.3 and the same for a 3.5s.Like i said the 3.3 is a reg stlye 1 cam motor while a 3.5 is a DOHC motor.

RE: 3.3 engine differances?
Early 3.3's had 153 horses vs 161 for '95 (?)and later. That's the only difference I know of, if you're thinking of a junkyard replacement. There are probably some internal upgrades, which is often the case from year to year, but any 3.3 from an Intrepid should work. If the motor is transverse, (Dynasty, Caravan, etc), the motor mounts won't allow it. And yes, there's a great deal of difference between the 3.3 & the 3.5.
