Default will my muffler rot out?

hey guys, i recently put a 40 series flowmaster and a tip on my 99 4x4 5 sp., i go to school in duluth minnesota and was wondering if anyone has had any trouble with them rotting out or going bad after a harsh winter? is there anything i can do to try to prevent this? i was also wondering if a cheap soft cover would be a good idea? or would the cheap ones just break and be pointless during the winter? any opinions or experiences would be very helpful. thanks to everyone who has been replying to my very general and stupid questions. i have learned so much from you all.

Default RE: will my muffler rot out?

I kept my German vehicle rust free despite the tons of road salt over there by spraying the car (especially the fenderwells and UNDER the car) with plain water almost every day. Make sure to avoid short trips in cold weather or water will collect in the exhaust system and rust it out from the inside. A garage kept it from freezing up and I kept the locks lubed. A car cover can be a blessing and a curse.....get one that breathes or the moisture will ruin your finish. Covers have a bad habit of rubbing the finish/paint off of the corners of the vehicle when the wind in blowing no matter how soft the material is......

I've had a flowmaster 30 series on my Ram for what, 5 years now and it's still rock solid. We don't have road salt though. Mine does stay covered in mud a fair bit.

Every stainless steel muffler I've ever put on has ended up rotting out due to road salt. [&:]

Keep it washed and don't make short trips. That's about all the advice I can give you. Or get a beater car....that's the option I chose

Off topic, but I need to know. Did you use an offset muffler in the stock location? I noticed today when I was under my Dak that the stocker isn't center in/out.
