View Full Version : Daytona Rims
Hi All,
I'm having a serious jones for new rims on the TB. I don't like the fact that other than a little bit of black paint, they are the same as every RT out there. I figure a '1 of 4000' should have had a distinctive rim like the SRT's. I'm really thinking going something failry retro. What I would really like is the old Cragar SS but they don't make it in the size and or offset for the Charger. What do you all think of this one? I will be sticking with the 18's as I like the size ratio compared to the car and the sidewall height is just right for ride comfort as far as I'm concerned.

Hopefully that worked.
Theres also this one I'm looking at:

MangoInTX 07-27-2006, 02:02 AM Those Cragars would be kick booty!
I've been eyeing some wheels w/black spokes and a chrome lip. I'm w/you and want to keep the wheels to 18" or possibly 19". These ASA's would be good for me if they had the right size.

Those are real nice Mango. The problem I've run into is that our cars use a FWD offset since the chassis is offered in AWD. It seriously limits the choice of rims.
baldyloxs 07-27-2006, 04:42 AM They do make them but I cant find anyone to give me a price those are BADDDDDD
BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 12:40 PM I have been doing some searching as well. What do you think about staggering the wheel sizes to rake the car? 20's in the back and 19's in the front?
Although the black goes well with the car I think it gives it an import look. Just my opinion.
MangoInTX 07-27-2006, 01:13 PM I've been waffling on the black thing since day one. I think black would blend well with the OEM setup… black grill/rear spoiler/front chin. On the flip since that may be too much black and give it a dark look were the wheel details would be washed out.
Your right baldyloxs Cragar does make those 610s in 18x7.5 and 18x9. I posted a question to them about local dealers here in TX.
I’ve also been eyeing the cragars. They would give it a kick a$$ look that cries out to an old schooler like me. Too bad tire rack doesn’t carry these; I would like to see a picture of them on the car. If things get serious it would be time to PHOTOSHOP-em.
74scamp 07-27-2006, 01:18 PM I REALLY like those Cragers. Yes, by all means - photochop. I'd an oldie but a goodie, too :)

BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 01:32 PM Check out foose wheels he has some really nice designs.
I really think the Charger is meant for 20 or 22 inch rims. The wheel wells are so large.
Check out these bad boyz

BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 02:08 PM What does that mean when you say the car has a forward offset? What do you have to look for when choosing rims?
MangoInTX 07-27-2006, 03:10 PM I have checked out the foose's as well, they do look nice. If they would take off the rivits I'm sold.
BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 03:20 PM I totally agree with you on the rivits thing.
If you buy online I have noticed they MOST charge a re -stocking fee if you return them.
chargin69 07-27-2006, 04:25 PM Those look good!! I put SRT 8 wheels on mine. However, the suspension is different from and SRT 8 and an R/T. You have check the clearance of the wheels.
BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 04:36 PM What about staggering the rims 19 in front and 20s in back? Basically give it a hot rod rake?
BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 04:42 PM Do you have a pic to share?
What happened since the suspensions are different?
I have heard the SRT do not have the load leveling option which makes the Daytonas stiffer which improves handling.
SanDiegoCharger 07-27-2006, 05:13 PM Zedd, what is the Cragar part/wheel number of the five spoke in your original post? I am looking for a classic 5-spoke design similar to a Torq Thrust. Thanks.
MangoInTX 07-27-2006, 05:37 PM Here's Crager's web page, this will dump you into their wheels section.

chargin69 07-27-2006, 07:44 PM SRTs do have load leveling suspension. My left front wheel weight hits the suspension when I turn in reverse. The car looks like the Super Bee. I will post pics soon.
BigBananna3796of4000 07-27-2006, 07:59 PM So are you saying 20 inch wheels dont fit or just SRT wheels dont work?
SanDiegoCharger 07-27-2006, 08:40 PM Pardon my newbie comment if it's dumb, but if anything I'd think the SRT would sit a bit lower than the RT. And if so, wouldn't that indicate that the SRT wheels/tires easily fit on an RT? I ask because I'd like to purchase aftermarket wheels/tires using the SRT specs (for an RT).
OK, let's see if I can remember all the questions...
By FWD I meant 'Front Wheel Drive' not forward. It is a 40mm offset if I remember correctly.
The rims in the first post are also Cragar 610's. They are SS 610's and the second ones are 610c's. My tire guy can't get Cragar to even acknowledge the SS 610's however. I went ahead and ordered the 610c's today and will have them put on Saturday if I approve of them in person when I see them.
MangoInTX 07-28-2006, 12:43 AM Damn sweet, look forward to seeing them. You are required to post a pic once their on the car you know ;)
baldyloxs 07-28-2006, 04:18 AM pretty sure cragar makes a 20"in those 2. yeah like OLDSCHOOL newbies. I ve seen 20's on a charger all i can say is SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !!!!!
DevilsReject 07-28-2006, 04:23 AM The black with chrome lip looks super nice on the Charger...especially in 20+.....same with the Magnum and 300C....and while I dont like these style of wheels....here's an idea of what it could look like...

Yep Cragar makes them in 20". However I have no desire to have a car this heavy with sidewalls that small. My last car was a heavily modded WRX that went through two sets of 18" rims due to the tiny sidewalls and the nasty road conditions I have here. I love the comfort of the ride in this car and aim to keep it. I am going to 9" wide rims with wider tires however.
So, best laid plans and all that..
It turns out that there were almost no tire choices to fit the 18x9 rims I had chosen. There was one that was an OEM tire for a particular model of Porsche with a price to match. So, after all my pontificating about the evils of 20" rims, I bit the bullet. I went with the Cragar 610c rim in 20x9 with Toyo Proxes in 245x45x20, the same size as the rears on the SRT. I went all the way around though. Looks damn nice. I'll attempt to post the pic I took at the tire shop, hopefully it works..:)

MangoInTX 07-29-2006, 07:56 PM Great deal, thanks for the pics.
Those wheels are... FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! [sm=smiley20.gif]
[sm=gears.gif]
baldyloxs 07-30-2006, 05:31 PM Ok Zedd where you get those and how much were they? I have to get some!!!!!!!!
I got mine from a chain out here in CA called Just Tires. They are in a few other states as well but not truly nationwide. They certainly weren't cheap at $300 each but they are excellent quality. The pictures don't come close to doing them justice.
baldyloxs 07-30-2006, 08:28 PM Ok thanks! those were the 610 right?
Midnight Blue 07-31-2006, 12:25 AM Drop American Racing a line. The more that ask, the better the chances of getting what we like. I asked them about it but they don't do our bolt pattern in the TorqThrust II's. Yet. I did some cut and paste and those things look sick on the charger. Kinda old school muscle meets new tech. I agree about the fake rivets and other frou-frou. Makes the wheel look too busy.
Haven't seen the "new" Crager SS yet. Would be interesting to see it in person. Sometimes the pics don't do things justice. Still prefer the American Racing look to the Cragar but who knows.
I've been thinking about chroming the shiny parts of my stock wheels and redoing the insets with satin black powder coat. That would give depth to the shiny parts and the black would be more durable. Same design but more bling.

BigBananna3796of4000 07-31-2006, 12:15 PM Nice!!
The car is made for 20's great choice.
BigBananna3796of4000 08-03-2006, 12:51 PM Is it possible to put differeent size rims and tire widths on a dodge charger?
Why not give the car a rake look for example. 20's on the back with wide tires and 19's on the front w/ 19's and thinner tires?
I think it woud give the car a more hot rod look?
The main problem with different size tires front and rear is that since so many performance tires are directional now, you would not be able to rotate your tires at all without dismounting them. Right now I can at least rotate front to back as they stay on the same side of the car.
MangoInTX 08-04-2006, 12:29 AM That would be my concern also Zedd, not being able to rotate. If it's not a concern that would be a cool look.
By the way Zedd please leave your address. ;) Just Kidding :D I need to come by and borrow those Cragars! Those things just ROCK. I have justified them to those in power... me :)... but have to save up the Hemi Bucks.
topbanna3767 08-04-2006, 03:04 AM i was looking at a set of american racer wheels it is black 5 spoke with a slight crease down each spoke and with a trip to the paint shop you could highlight the crease with a yellow and color the rivets yellow as well that would look super hot.
BigBananna3796of4000 08-04-2006, 05:15 PM I think it would look really cool too.
Wont have the jack until bonus time in Feb 2007. I am budgeting 5k for it.
So that project is on hold.
Midnight Blue 08-07-2006, 04:08 AM Don't forget about HAL. The two different rotational speeds of the different sized tires would drive the ABS and ESP bats#t. If you want rake, try lowered front springs.

That is one HELL of a good point Redbeard. I hadn't even thought of that when I made my decision to keep my wheels all the same.
BigBananna3796of4000 08-07-2006, 03:23 PM Shiver me timbers I never though of that!
Same size wheels all around for me.
