I too have noticed the heat issue when working under the hood.

It doesnt cool dwn for hrs. Why do you think this happens? I thought it was teh engine dress cover trapping heat under it.

PERSONEL OPINION IS THAT THEY MADE THE ENGINE IN A WAY THAT IT GIVES OF THE HEAT RATHER THEN HOLD IT IN LIKE THE OLDER BIG BLOCKS USED TO OR IT COULD JUST BE THE METALS THEY USE GIVE OF THE HEAT OVER A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME.

I run w/o the engine tophat and the plastic under belly shroud and the 5.7 still dispenses heat for a long time, even when it well below 100 degrees outside.

3767,

In the old days, the engines, the block and the heads were both cast iron and they held ALOT of heat and would turn the interior of a car into an oven -- that is one reason I sold my GTX. Fortuneately, my Daytona has great A/C and must have good heat disipation since the temp gauge never moves once it gets to operating temp; even in the hot desert of CA on my trip, the interior was cool and the engine seemed never affected.

How's the wet water, er, expierment working out?

I run a 180 degree thermostat that I purchased from O'Rileys auto parts. It is a Stant equivilent. It starts to open at 177, on a cool day will hold at 177-179. Most of the summer it runs in the 180's. (on the highway in 90 degree heat will run 186-188) In the city will climb into the 190's or low 200's.

For those that dont know - the stock thermostat is 204.

You can check the engine temp by holding in the two inside buttons on your steering wheel controls. (music note and map?) hold for about 10 seconds and you can get into a cool diagnostic mode that will tell you alot of information including engine temp.

Michael

I have the water wetter in mine Mango #1200 it seemed to drop temp about 5 degrees, was running around 218 on display now closer to 210 most of the time. I have this stuff in my 64 custom 880 with a 383 and it made a 15 degree difference.

Hey thirtysevensixtyseven, er, 3767, I have heard about a product from Royal Purple that will reduce the engine and oil temp from a additive in the radiator system... they make about the slipperyist oil out there so this stuff might be pretty good. I believe it's called Royal Purple Ice...
