take the 4.7 and stroke the snot out of it. forget the bull engine swap, waste of time and money, plus you will need all the computer hardware and wiring.

ITS CUMMINS, NOT CUMMINGS!!

Now with that out of the way, Jimbo:  I would look into a Cummins 4BT swap, much smaller and the swap is very common in jeeps and toyotas, and will put out quite a bit of torque and get 30 mpg.  You can find them cheap and easily as well, just look for an old frito lay truck or something of the sort, and well, there ya go.

I was under the impression the 4BT was quite a heavy engine.  Wonder how our crap suspensions up front would handle that...

I dont have any personal experiance with them, but you would think if jeeps use them alright, it should be fine...

That was my thought at first, but most jeeps are solid axle, and ours is axle-less mush

1.  I almost said something on the commings thing,  but held my fingers back...  lol

2. Our axels arnt the weak point IMO...  its out suspension in the front of the truck.   WE need some good reliable shocks/struts/springs/(insert here something that will stiffen the ride) before we go tossing a bunch of weight up front...

Yeah I was more meaning the front suspension is wimpy than anything about the axles

Solid axle would be nice but it would be very difficult on these trucks.

I'd think swapping in a hemi from the same year truck should be pretty easy. I've been watching for a wrecked '05 ram/jeep/durango..then I started thinkin' about the 6.1...but was that available yet in '05? You'd probably want to run the awd platform like the srt-8 jeep does instead of the 4wd t case...just to make the electronics less of a hassle...
