Default 14 miles per gallon -- OUCH

Ok, since i got my Dakota 4x4, I've been tracking the mileage and it's getting roughly 14.3 miles per gallon. A couple of things I have to consider though is the fact that it's hot as hell and i've run the A/C hard. The other thing is I have some over-sized tires on it which I don't want to part with http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_504763/m.../tm.htm#504763.

My question is what can I do to increase the mileage on this baby?

Simpley put, I don't think there is a way.
Is this primarily city driving? If you do highway driving, what percent?
Another thing is, have you had the speedometer/odometer recalibrated for the new size tires? I believe the dealer can do this.

I get about 12-13 city with my 3.9L Gen I Dakota (mainly without A/C). I get about 17-18-ish highway (at average speed, somewhere around 70-75, with A/C). I have the tires that are the original size.

It's primarily city driving. I have not had the odometer recalibrated. I never even thought to do that!
I had read somewhere on here that doing some engine mods can increase mileage such as air intake etc. Don't know how true that is though.

IIRC, air intake and exhaust can help a little. But, I would say don't hope for too much... we all know what them tires do for mileage, haha.

I guess I should just be happy I'm driving this 3.9 V6 instead of the F150 V8 I got rid. Do you remember when gas was a buck per gallon and you didn't have to worry about this crap?

I remember when gas was a buck a gallon and I didn't have to worry period, I didn't drive. Of course, as soon as I started driving, it hit $2 a gallon, and, now its like $3. [:@]

I guess that dates me then. My first car was a vw bug and when i bought it I pulled into the gas station and got gas for 95 cents per gallon. They are predicting up toward 4 bucks per gallon this fall. Maybe I'll go back to a Harley. What really sucks is my other car is a jeep wrangler and it's getting around 17 miles.

Since I bought my dakota I've averaged about 12.5 or so mpg.

Its a truck. Want better mileage, buy a hybrid.

Hybrid's don't get better mileage in the long run. Just better emissions.
