I'm starting to get kind of disenchanted with my R/T. I love the engine, but I hate the way it drives. I've posted before about what I feel is a looseness in the front end. The dealer says nothing wrong; checked out the entire front suspension and could find nothing loose or wrong. But, hitting bumps wants to pull the steering wheel out of my hands - it shakes and vibrates - like an old car with bad ball joints. I told them this and their solution was to lower the air pressure in the tires.

I've never driven a car that was so difficult to hold in a straight line! I wonder if it could be the tires - mine has Continentals on it. What do yours have?

I'm also getting kind of disgusted that DCX chose to "fix" these so we can't completely turn of the traction control.

Woe is me. I'm thinking of trading her off. It's a blast around town, but on the open highway - it can be a handfull at times. Just not what I expected. Thought I could get used to it and adjust, but it's not happening.

OK, rant over. Thanks for listening.

Something I have seen on countless Dodge forums, is the crappy stock tire issues. They either wobble, blow, or wear out super quick. I'd definitely, definitely suggest an aftermarket tire. It's just a complete royal pain in the a**.

As for the traction control, well....they put that there for the idiots who think they can drive but really cant.

Hope that helps.

Sorry to read your post. I cant say enough about how thrilled I am w/ my purchase. I own a fully loaded Daytona minus the flat screen in teh back seat.

I drove the R/T with out the road and track option and I was going to pass on the Charger all together. The car was not that great for 29K. Sluggish and the interior was average.

On my way home I saw a Top Banana on a lift in front of a dealer and decided to give it a test drive just to see what the difference was with raod and track option.

It was like night and day and I fell in love w/ the car immediatly. My girl friend was the deciding vote she also drove both cars and loved the Daytona.

When I bought mine, they said that they couldn't get the R/T with the Road & Track package. Either these guys just wanted to sell me a car (they showed me on their computer that the R & T package was not available) or it was a package that was added after I got mine.

I wonder if the sway bars from a Daytona would make the difference? Or if I'd have to go the full monty and get the shocks, too. Shouldn't have to do that, though. Do these things have steering stabilizers on them? I think I was told they didn't. There is just not a very "solid" feel to the steering wheel.

DevilsReject has a very good point, tires play a big role in the problems your seeing.

If you think it's body roll, sways are the way to go. I put Hotchkis Sways on mine, couldn't be happier.

What kind of tires do you have? What would you recommend? I've thought of Goodyear and B.F. Goodrich, maybe Michelins. Where did you get your sways?

The R/T package comes with preformace steering ,load leveling suspension and bigger tires. I too was being touted on buying an R/t w out the R/t pref grp option I passed. The car was nice but it was not what I wanted.

The load leveling suspension is key it is computerized and gives the car a ride better then my friends 5 series BMW.

The real treat here is the Road/Track Performance Group. Far from many “performance” packages on the market that merely offer visual enhancements, this group leaves hardly any aspect of the car untouched. Performance Suspension with Load Leveling and Height Control coupled with Performance Steering morph this large sedan into a canyon carver. Add wider, lower profile 235/55R18 tires and a high-speed engine computer and you wind up with a car that really means business. As if those enhancements alone weren’t enough, you get those fabulous Performance Seats and Power Adjustable Pedals along with the electronic elements of the Convenience Group II to round out the creature comforts of this package. At only $1600, this has to be one of the best values on the market today.

I know. I guess I screwed up. Maybe look at trading it in on one with the R&T package. Hate to do that, though. If they would swap the exhaust, CAI, etc. - maybe.

you dont want to take that kind of hit. Just upgrade your current suspension and tires.

My daytona came with Michelin tires and the ride is smooth as silk, both city and highway driving. No bouncing, nothing.

Try the tires first. My cousin had a magnum with continentals and it was horrible. After he upgraded the wheels with a performance tire it was like a whole new car. My daytona has michelin tires and I can't say enough good thinks about it. My wife works at a state park and the roads are bumpy with alot of curves and she tells me how fast she is always going because it is so smooth. Something else you should do is drive the scamp on a road with alot of curves really fast, then the charger won't seem so bad.

I'm sure all of those impresive burnouts doesn't help your tires either

OK, tell me which Michelins you guys have, please. I went to Discount Tire Co.com and fund a place where people could comment on the tires on their cars. I found a place for folks with Magnums to comment and without exception - those with the Continentals said they were terrible! So, tell me what Michelins to look for and I'll try that.

That will leave me with 4 Continentals to burn up!

Dave, my friend, I never thought I'd read a post like that...

You know I have the Daytona model and have the stock Michelin Pilot HX MXM4's that came with the car. I have to say they are good tires. The car is rock steady at 125, offer good control under fairly hard cornering, and good control under hard (#8 brake, Mike) braking. I drove in a thunderstorm in Idaho on my way to CA, and didn't expierence any problems. I keep them inflated to 35 pounds and they are quiet and offer a great ride.

I have had no emergency stops or other manuvers to tell anymore with them. My closest was in the CA desert where the roadwork crew are fixing the bridge approaches to the flash flood runoff areas. One little sign said "bump". I was far away from the car in front of me and did not see any indication of what was to come. I'm running at 75, and just passing approaching the bump sign, and suddenly see skid marks on the new black asphault to the dip in the road ahead -- WHAM -- I hit my head on the roof, my other son in the front seat was strangled by the lap belt, and my son sleeping in the back seat almost hit the ceiling. He said his period started -- (in reference to National Lampoon's Vacation) anyway, the car rebounded hard before bottoming out but the control was straight and never waivered with no front or rear end push. I was impressed with the car and unimpressed with the roadcrews warnings.

I'd like to take the car to the EVO course to try but the closest one is in St Cloud, and I'm not in law enforcement anymore. Again, Mike, you'll have to tell us how this baby is on the course when you get one! (EVOC - emergency vehicle operations course).

Sorry to hear Dave you are so frustrated with the car. Sounds like you may have separated a belt or since the back ones have no rubber anymore, your getting a slight push making it unstable!! LOL

But seriously, get those tires off. Hope it is not any more serious than that.

Is the Daytona package that much better than the stock Charger?? You'd think they both are very similiar.

mnboy - If IRC, the Daytona has beefier stab bars, leveling shocks, etc. The R/T has smaller stab bars and more standard shocks. I'm going to look into a new set of tires. I don't drive that aggressively - i.e., curvey roads (just straight line stuff - sometimes ). Hate to spend the money new tires already when there's so much rubber left to burn off . But the car is not that pleasant to drive on the open road.
