Yeah, they are costly. Michelin has to pay for the Tire/Dough Boy ads and kids flying around the clouds on tires...

This is my very first set of Michelin's, I've been a Goodyear guy since my pursuit days. I have to say they've been a good tire for 9,300 miles.
But I see they are $230 each at TireRack.

Mike had the size on his post, mine, of course, are the same.

I see Mike is trying to talk to his ECU, maybe if you talk to your tires... well, you probably have already and it isn't pretty...

We'll have to read what others say about your plight.

I have really NO complaints with my Daytona.

ouch! $230/ea. Well, I might come into the "big city" this weekend and price some new tires. What a bummer. I wonder if they still put these crappy Continentals on them at the factory.

scamp,

I had an '04 Magnum R/T that came with the Contis. They wore out, all 4 of 'em, after 16K miles. At highway speed of 70mph or better the steering wheel would vibrate pretty seriously. I took the car the the dealer first and they could not do anything but tell me the tires were worn out. After only 16K miles on 45K tires?!?!?! I had to go to NTB (only Conti dealer that honors the warranty) and they said that DC probably did not match the tire properly to the performance of the vehicle. There were no other approved substitutions so if I wanted a warranty replacement I would have to go with Contis again. I did but I have since sold the Magnum (with a final of 29K miles on it) and got the TB Daytona.

As far as ride comparisons between the Magnum with the Contis and the Daytona with the Michelins all I can say is they are very comparable. No drift, swaying, vibrations or jerkiness of the wheel when hitting a pothole or rough patch of road. I had no problem with the Contis other than they wore out. Since I only have 4K miles on the Daytona the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned regading tire wear. As for road handling I couldn't be happier with the Daytona (or with the magnum either, for that matter, provided the tires are in good shape)

You may want to try a different brand of tire for your Daytona R/T. Since it's the same chassis as the Magnum and has the same tires therein could lie your problem. As I found out DC will not warranty the tires. You have to take them in yourself. NTB was very nice about the whole thing and did the work and replaced everything FOC so no complaints there. But to get a different brand, like Michelins, under warranty may be tough. Unless DC has another approved tire listed for the regular R/T you may be spending mony out of pocket on a new set of rubber.

Dave, I lied right to you... they are $209 each with a $50 rebate on 4. Yeah, they are expensive, but they might be worth it...

I'd take it to a good alignment place and have them look closely.

Maybe your talking yourself into a Daytona...

We won't let you buy an SRT8 because we don't want you to leave this area...

Make sure you take it to a place that does Mercedes. The alignment on the LX chassis can't be done at just any shop. I found out on my Magnum when I had the tires replaced. the salesguy had to get the shop manager to look at my Magnum and he came back and told me the whole suspension system has Mercedes written all over it. For that they need special alignment equipment (read as $$$$$) that only certain shops are equipped with.

I did say "good" shops. Maybe, I should have said "expensive alignment places". LOL

I agree with you G.

Gee. You guys are making me feel better all the time . J/K.

Hmmm, hadn't thought about the Mercedes connection, even though I knew it.

I'll take a look around and see what I can come up with. I really, really, like the car. It's just not that much fun, as I said, on the open road.

If you plan to keep the car a while ask about a lifetime alignment.

Off topic... I have heard of this Dr Z before, went to the link and browsed a little. I was told Dr Z's a charman of DCX but didn't find any information on the site about this person. Can anyone tell me who this person is?

Regarding alignment - I know that either toe-in, or toe-out makes it more stable, but can't remember which is which, and the other way makes it turn better, but loses some of it's stability. Can anyone enlighten me as to which is which?

I believe toe-in gives better straight-line stability.

Toe-in helps keep the steering less sensitive and track straight. Toe-out results in more sensitive steering.

Whether I am driving 70 or 130mph I have had no problems with vibrations. Of course I have the Daytona with the package. Love my Top Banana 3777 with my Superchips tuner. Remarkable! Sorry you are having problems.

You guys ever watch monster trucks and see how their front wheels shake back and forth when landing hard, then bouncing up again? That's what it feels like the wheels on my car are doing when hitting bumps at times. Even when going over a series of small, closely spaced rolling hill-type sections of street, the car will not stay straight. I'm constantly having to correct it. My old 97 Saturn (with 153,000) doesn't do this. Maybe I have GREMLINS!!!

Hey all old muscle cars handled like a shopping cart! Just kidding! I agree try the tires first. Mine came though with Goodyears, but I've had your problem on other cars in the past.
