I am replacing the front struts on my wife's 1997 Intrepid and accoring to the repair manual that I have there are upper and lower coil spring isolators. The old ones on the car are shot and I cannot find replacements at any auto store. Are these items that are only available from the dealer or are they something does not need to be replaced. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did that job last year on my 96 Intrepid, found them at auto parts place under coil springs. Good luck.

I've found the front isolaters at several stores online, including RockAuto(best price).  But the lower isolators I could only get at a dealer ($27each).  Mine were crumbling toast as well, but not bad for 120,000 miles.
