I was an insurance adjuster in Florida when Hurricane Andrew hit. I was based in Tampa as an aircraft accident investigator. When Andrew hit, we moved to the Dania, Fl. area and began work on the storm. I decided to buy a new truck, so the wife and I went to dealer in Ft. Lauderdale to look at Dakota's. I found the one I want and it was loaded. I wrote them a check for it and when I went outside, they had new Pearlescent Stealth, (loaded) sitting on the display pad in front of the showroom. The wife was drooling all over it. She wanted that car so bad, I felt bad we could ot afford it. It listed for over $45,000.00 with the demand mark up. No way we could afford something like that.

In 1993 we returned home to Arkansas. I told a friend of mine, who was a salesman at a Dodge dealership near us of my wife's love of the Stealth when she saw that one in Ft. Lauderdale. I had bought her a new Dodge Intrepid and she really enjoyed that car, good gas mileage and rode good. About 3 months of telling my friend of Janice's love of the Stealth, I got a call from him. He said we have the same exact car Janice fell in love with and it is one owner, low mileage and that it had belonged to a Female Doctor. He Dr. decided she wanted a Lexus, so she traded it in. The Dodge dealer bought it at auctiona and now had it on his lot. I had purchased several new Dodge vehicles from this dealer, so I asked Bill to see how much they would take for it in cash. He called back and said to bring Janice over to look at it, which I did. Her remark was, we cannot afford something that expensive, even if I love the car. I agrreed with her, but I wanted to look at it anyway. We took off to the dealers lot and upon arriving found Bill and he took us to the car. My God, it looked new, still had the new smell, no dents, shined like crazy and had 9,993 miles on it. All the service records were in the glove compartment and she had the oil changed every 2,000 miles and had a mobile detailer wax the car every month, man, she was as fanatical about keeping a vehicle new as I was. Bill gave me her number and I called and discussed the car with her. Come to find out her husband, who was also a Doctor, was a very large man and did not like getting into the car, so he told his wife to get a Lexus, (good for me, bad for her). I told Bill we probably could not afford it. He said is the Intrepid paid for and I told him it was. He said would you give me $21,500.00 for the Stealth, cash. I told him we did not need an Intrepid, Dakota, and a Stealth, so I would have to sell the Intrepid first. He said to hurry up, as that was a special price for us from the dealer. A day later he called and said he had someone who wanted and Intrepid, would I bring it down there. I did and bought the Stealth without telling my wife. We got withing $3,000 of what we had paid for the Stealth, so that was a sign that the Stealth really needed a home at our house. it was a 1992 Stealth RT/TT, loaded with everything but the sliding skylight.

When I got back, Janice was on the deck, doing some cleaning. I went out and told her I messed up her Intrepid and for her to please not be mad at me. She is a sweetheart and told me, as long as you are okay, it is okay. She said let me go look at it. I did not go to the garage with her. I heard this loud scream when she entered the garage, a scream of, oh  my god, I don't believe you did this. I thought she was mad, but found out, quite the contrary. She msut have hugged me for thirty minutes, much to my joy.

We have loved the car, to this day. It now has 43,288 miles on it, has always been garaged, washed regularly, waxed regularly, and maintained. Only problem we have had was an EMC failure and now the speedometer quits at 40 MPH. She will not sell it and intends to give it to one of our granddaughters in Florida. I just hope it lasts another 10 years, which I am sure it will.
