I agree no bad done... It does provoke thought and ideas. This topic has been debated on all the Mopar/LX/Charger forms in the same fashion. Looking forward to results of your mods!

I have #3850 Top Bananna Daytona, I had the 2 rear whatchamacallits removed and tailpipes welded on with factory tips. My buddy did this on his magnum and had some increase in his exhaust tone, imagine my surprise when my Daytona sounded like it was straight pipe all the way. I found out that the Magnum and the Charger RT's have a 3 pass muffler and the Daytona's have a straight through muffler. I really liked the sound at idle and full throttle, but at around 2000 rpm (highway speeds) it did have a bad drone. I had two 12" glasspacks welded in the tail pipes. I still can hear it driving on the highway but now I don't have to turn up the volume on the radio, and still sounds good at idle and under power. Last but not least with all the work done I only have $125 in it. Everybody has their own taste but for me I love the sound of my Daytona and I didn't have to spend a fotune to get it. I say go for it!

I've never seen the suitcase out of the car so I'll take your word for it. I read about it though on one of the Dodge web sites where they reviewed the Daytona and I assumed there was some truth to it since the difference in sound between my friends RT and mine. As for the glasspacks I've never heard that before but I'll find out. I ran the car before they were on and it ran 14.4 in the quarter so I'll find out if they slow it down or not.

The suitcase on the R/T IS three chamber..I had mine removed and once out of the car could not see light out the other end (and it was heavy to boot). I replaced it with 2 Magnaflow 4x9x14 offset/offset mufflers pt number 11235 just aft of the X pipe. They were a perfect fit. They gave the car a deeper exhaust tone, no drone and keeps the wife happy. But when I get on it the sound is there and I picked up a little performance too. Combined with the MOPAR CAI the car sounds the way a Hemi should. I paid $120.00 for the pair and another $60.00 for installation. I'm keeping the rear thingies for the time being...but who knows???? So far I'm pretty happy with the set up.

In the Daytona, it is straight through, you can see the bulb at the other end... Dodge said they did some refinements to the Daytona to increase the HP over the stock R/T -- there is one of them...

Shorty JBA headers and Borla should pass emissions. The stock CAT/midpipe is one piece and isn't replaced by a CATBack. The CATback bolts up to the midpipes it replaces everything back from there. Don't delete the CATs if your worried about emissions. The fit of JBA/Borla will be like stock. No ground clearance issues. Your suitecase and handbags will be replaced by the CATback. Hope this helps.

Been there, done that. Cut off the rear "things" and replaced them with pipe. Sounded decent at idle but the drone was annoying an normal driving speeds. My wife would grouse about it which made things more annoying. She was right, which was even more annoying!!!! Ordered a Borla 112 system ($791, no tax, free shipping) which is a quieter than the pipes but a little louder than stock. It was much smoother and has a nice growl when you get on it. Also makes nice noises when playing in autostick mode. The Borla 125 doesn't have the rear resonators (I think I can safely call them that on the Borla system) so it should have a more aggressive sound. It appears Dodge sells the Borla system for the Magnums in their performance parts listing. I kinda like using a system where all the components have been designed as a complete unit rather than chop suey systems (as we used to call them in Hawaii) using bits and pieces of other systems or parts. Personal choice and to each their own. Anyway, glad I spent the $800. Definitely woke the car up and made it a lot more fun. Redbeard

Sorry I am just now reading this thread again...You know all you guys can blame this on me...I am the one that HAD to ask where the resonators were...SORRY...My next question is WILL it improve performance just to cut the resonators out? Is it really worth it?

LOL. Here we go again... Dodgegirl, first look at the post by MangoInTX -- there are several, but look for the Charger undercarriage picture. Second, look at Mango's post of the dictionary meaning. Both are good references. On the Daytona models, the back two large (the wrap around the frame in a "U" shape) chambers are mufflers. They are offset, multichambered, heavy, masses of hollow metal that help keep the DRONE down when in the MDS mode. Put a light on one end, and you see NOTHING out the other end. Heading up the pipes going forward, is a large hollow see-thru (end to end) resonator called the "suitcase" by many. This is the one and only resonator on the Daytona. Also, on the Daytona, it is, as mentioned, see-thru. Put a light at one end, you can see it out the other end. To add to the confusion, several ventors call their straight thru designs mufflers and some resonators. Read posts by several of us here and you'll see that DRONE NOISE is a culprit when messing with the system. People fail to realize that this is a two engine car -- once the MDS kicks in, you are suddenly in a drone, or low low resonating humming, that makes the interior of the car unbearable in the Daytona model. It is my opinion, you DO NOT gain anything by removing something that is practically empty anyway. Be careful. This is a tuned system that is unforgiving if incorrectly altered. MN
