3767 - Some have Borla, I have the Magnaflow. mnboy will, I'm sure, chime in with his solution [:D], which I probably would have done myself had I known. He kept pretty much the stock pipe, but replaced the "suitcase" (large part underneath) and the parts at the tail pipe by either just filling in with more pipe or Flowmaster mufflers. There is some dispute as to which part of the stock system consists of the mufflers, and which parts are the resonators. That goes for replacement systems as well. But, whatever you call them, they are there and can be replaced in several different ways - either by complete new factor systems, i.e., Borla, Magnaflow or others, or by piecing together a "custom" system yourself. There is also some debate over how much actually changing they system really helps. Borla, Magnaflow and other manufacturers claim a certain hp and torq increase, but other people claim there isn't that much to be gained in performance, just sound.

So, it's pretty much up to you as to what you want. There are sponsors of this board that sell systems from basic to just about everything. One thing to keep in mind - whatever you do with your exhaust system, you should update the intake to one of several Cold Air Intakes (CAI) that are available.

Hope this helps. I know it can be confusing, but, as said above, it's pretty much up to you. Others will chime in with what they have and how they like their systems. I like my Magnaflow and it was easy to install myself. mnboy likes his custom exhaust, but that means taking the car to a muffler shop or someone you trust with a welder. So, good luck, which ever way you go.

Dave,
Does this mean you can install the Magnaflow system with no welding????

thank

mnboy -> RE: which after market exaust system is best (6/27/2006 12:39:55 PM)

As Dave said, I'll be chiming in. I used the Magnaflow rear resonator/mufflers, replacing the smaller stock ones, however, I left the suitcase resonator in place. It handles the 4 cylinder (MDS) mode well, and has a good bark when you're on it. However, in using the M/F muffler that is supplied with the kit, the interior noise (DRONE) is very annoying in the cabin in the DAYTONA model. My idle is quiet, not throaty like a Flowmaster 40 set up, but does get much louder at WOT (wide open throttle).

I had my muffler shop weld some pieces in, but the entire M/F system does not need any welding when put on as a full kit ( cats to the back ).

baldyloxs and others enjoy their Borla system, and it comes in a two or four system (two mufflers without resonators or with them).

Good luck! [;)]

Dave, I parked my GoMango next to a new Tor-Red at Moss Brothers Dodge in Riverside. I'll post the photos later tonight...

That is correct, kOnO. No welding at all.

After going through several variations of exausts Corsa got my money and gets my vote for best aftermarket CATback. Zero Drone and sounds great when shes opened up.

mnboy -> RE: which after market exaust system is best (7/3/2006 9:26:22 AM)

I looked at Corsa very closely and have to admit I make a rookie mistake -- I took them out of the running because of price -- they were almost twice as much as the Magnaflow and Borla systems. My son had CORSA on his 2003 ZO6 Corvette and they were the NICEST sounding pipes I've ever heard in a small block car, however, they were a bit loud at hwy speeds. I know, I know, to each his own, but again, I put it all together and tried a new system. Of course hindsight is 20/20, and if I knew I had to chop up a brandnew $700 system to get it right, I would have tried another system, but live and learn...

Glad you chose right the first time. [;)]

3767 i think you should go with the Flowmaster 40 Series muffler with stainless steel tips. The 40 series muffler for some reason gives a mean roar and great sound from dodge more than its competitors. i have the 40 series on my ram 1500 and it screams when i put the pedal down

Asgard_thor -> RE: which after market exaust system is best (7/3/2006 1:42:38 PM)

I think so too, thats why im getting for my magnum

MangoInTX -> RE: which after market exaust system is best (7/3/2006 4:21:04 PM)

I put Flowmaster 40s on my 03 RAM Hemi, they had a nice throaty sound. You will like them on the Mag.

topbanna3767 -> RE: which after market exaust system is best (7/4/2006 1:44:36 AM)

JUST GOT AN UPDATE I THINK I HAVE THIS DOWN PRETTY GOOD THE SYSTEM FIRST LETS BRAKE T HE SYSTEM DOWN INTO 3 PART THE HEADERS MID SECTION PIPES AND THE EXAUST SECTION.i can use any header available if i leave the mid pipe section in and then buy just the borla aggresive exaust leaving the stock midpipes in.if i remove the stock midpipes and use the jba midpipes they will contain the catalitic converters and will fail emissions test so before i go i was told by jba to replace them with the factory midpipes so i think im gonna do jba headers and leave the mid pipes in and go with borla aggressive back exaust so i can leave the mid parts in so i wont fail emmisions and im told the stock sytem handles the mds sytem alot better.
