>6-speed auto (68RE with ERS, will replace 4-speed auto later in model year)

Are you sure that is correct?
I personally hope it is,
but other news releases are saying the new 6 speed auto made by the Japanese company Aisin will only be on the Ram 3500 Chassis cab model......

The 6-Speed auto will be available on the 6.1L Diesel that is coming in Jan 2007. I posted all this in a more brief manner 2 weeks ago. But nobody ever reads my stuff.

The 5.9L will be available in the Dodge Ram set up for coal mine environments. I believe it will also be available in the civilian Rams until January-ish.

The 6.7L will be available in the civilian Rams after January.

Changes are planned for the Ram lineup after the first of the year. Even the lit from DCX is changing after December. The 6 speed auto will be available after 9/18 only on 6.7 diesel. Personally I can't wait for the next gen Ram.

Was on ebay earlier and I found some pics of a 2007 Dodge Ram Mega Cab with the Durango and Dakota style tail lights. I personally don't think they look right but I've attached them to my post so everyone else can judge.

I dunno man but those tail lights look horrible on the Ram. I have to agree with sax man424 they don't look like they belong on there at all..... they remind me of those crappy APC Retro style tail lights.

Hmm, looks like you can still use the lights from the current Dodge Ram to replace them. That is one thing I hate about the new Dakota is the crappy looking tail lights. Look like they belong on a Chevrolet, not a DODGE! I do love the new Electric Blue they have on them though! About time they brought a color like that back. My last truck was Intense Blue 2001 Dodge Quad cab 4x4. Loved the color of that truck, just didn't like the fact it was out of warranty, and had some major front end problems.

Yes, that also looks bad. When the moved the Hemi Badge due to the headlights in 06 I choked a little, now they have the hideous multicolor badge on the door next to the Hemi badge??!! Debadging will become more popular! I will have to stop by the dealer on the way home to see this in person as I can not find any other pics.

OK, I stopped at the dealer. I saw a 07 1500 quad and it has the old Ram 1500 badges on the doors. So either that picture was something that Dodge was thinking about or it is only for the heavy duty trucks.

And the tail lights look worse in person.

I agree........you dont see many neat colors or color schemes one these new trucks like you did on the older ones. Personally, i loved the color schemes that dodge had from 97-01 for the dakota's and the ram's, Amber Fire Pearl, Electric Blue, Amethyst, Forest Green, Gold Driftwood, Chestnut Brown, Etc. just to name a few.........

Okay Drew I'm confused. I thought the 68RE was supposed to be a Chrysler design. If it is then why does the first pdf make a reference to Aisin-Warner when it talks about a 6-speed automatic? Also, why does the second pdf mean when they have the word ORION next to the 68RE name?

Drew
09-07-2006, 08:20 PM
there are actualy going to be two 6 spd auto's, one is the Chrysler built 68RFE and the other is the 68RE AISAN, the aisan tranny already existed and will only be available in the chassis cabs from what I am hearing. with the orion that may be the code name for the 68RFE, that is my best guess.

Okay thanks for clearing that up Drew. Is the new 68RFE partically based off of the 545RFE, or did they just really rework the 48RE? I noticed that the 6.7L equipped automatic model is detuned, I'm guessing that it can't handle the full amount of torque. You'd think that they would beef it up, espically since the output of engines aren't going to drop anytime soon.

I'm glad they aren't planning on using the Aisin unit in the ordinary truck. Aisin-Warner has been having quite a few reliability issues lately.

Just a quick fyi. You can't simply put a 06 taillight on an 07. They have two different harneses.

the 68RFE is a new tranny and carries nothing over from the 48RE, and the manual engine is the one that is detuned. GM does the exact same thing with their duramax engine. Dodge used to be the other way around with the Cummins where the manual got more juice than the auto, times are a-changin.

You're right. So the 68RFE is new. Did the 68RFE get design inspiration from the 545RFE since they are both "Fully Electronic" designs?

That is strange. Why would they give the detuned model to the manual transmission? Surely, if the torque was too much for the manual, they would have just given it a stronger manual.

I personally feel that the Dodge designers have royally screwed up. They ruined the Ram. It looks like a frog now instead of the baddest looking truck on the road. Not only the Ram, but the Durango looks awful too. The previous generation had an edge to them, now they look like bubbles.

I'm quite sure that the sport is still available in the quadcab configuration. The quad cab is the most popular, why would they limit the sport from that? The literature for the 2007 Rams have at least two pictures showing a quadcab sport and it is labeled as such. I have heard that the website does not allow that build. I'm sure it's a glitch.

Very true. There were decisions they made in the past that at that time, I criticized them and it turned out they were right. There were times I praised them for decisions which turned out to be wrong. All companies make mistakes. I liked some of their older styling (mid 90s) better than now and didn't like the newer styling but the newer styling eventually has grown on me, so I let it go.

This same debate went on when the 06 MEga Cabs came out.. People said how bad DOdge had screwed up the look of the new truck, and now it seems that everyone loves them.. I will admit, I didn't like the look of the new head lights at first, but now, I kind of like them.. I still am glad that I bought my 03 when I did a couple years back, but I would take a new Mega cab CTD anyday! lol

Here is all the changes for the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 model year, just click HERE: (http://dcaproductguides.com/d/pdfs/Ram_1500_RegularQuad_Cab301660.pdf)

Also the 2007 Dodge Durango has a redesigned front end and revised rear. The afterburner taillamps are still there. However, the new front end design is clean and looks like a more edgy Chrysler Aspen. You can get 20" rims also this year, and gone are the sporty colors like Flame Red. They are trying to make the Durango look upscale compared to the young-marketed Dodge Nitro.

Anybody done this? (swap '06 lights to an '07). I am about to buy an '07 and CANNOT STAND the new tail lights!!

I would imagine that the wires going to the tails are the EXACT same, just in a different harness/pigtail? So one would just have to obtain a set of '06 tails and use the pigtail/harness from the '07 tails?

Can anyone verify this for me?

Oh, by the way, I am new here, so HOWDY ALL! Thanks for any info you may be able to offer!!

I have an 07 and yes the taillights could have been designed better, howeverI do perfer to have them then the same taillight as every Dodge Ram for the last ten years. If they really do bother you stop crying and go buy one of the hundreds of styled tail lights designed for previous years. With that said all you older Ram owners should be real bumbed knowing that you cannot replace your old crappy headlights with the hot 07's. The funny thing is that new 2008 and 2009 are starting to change alot if you want to be worried about style differances and what you like better start with them. The 2007 is nothing more then an upgraded verison of the past models and fortunatly it's getting better.

Sorry I forgot to add this in the last post. This is directed mostly at the gentleman who suggested that one of the disign flaws of the 2007 Ram is the badging. Are you serious has nobody ever taken a look at the badging on any car or truck, it is the number one ugliest thing on any car or truck. First thing any new car owner should do isdebadge the vehicle, unless of course it isthere to show how much you can afford to spend. There is a thin line between stylish and completly ^&%*()&^ ugly.
