SRT4 VS COBALT SS
The Winnipeg Free Press is moding a cobalt SS...they dyno'd it before doing anything and got 262hp from it? anyone dyno a srt4 lately???

RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
i saw that too. I have to call BS on this. simply b/c the cobalt SS is a 2.0L. And i hear the SRT4 gets somewheres of 250Hp as a stage 1.

RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
Uh, thats complete and utter BS. A stock Cobalt SS S/C makes 205hp at the flywheel, how is it going to make 262 at the wheels?
And if it makes 262hp at the wheels stock (which it doesnt), the SRT-4 must make 310hp :D |
RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
The same way a stock SRT-4 dyno's at the wheels higher than it's rated HP at the flywheel, i've heard of stock SRT-4's dynoing at 250+ at the wheels, because they were underated from the manufacturer. The size of the engine doesn't really mean much, a honda S2000 makes 240hp with a N/A 2.0L, and a mitsubishi lancer evo makes 286hp with a 2.0 turbo.
Given that i've seen stock cobalt SS S/C run 1/4 mile times right around where a stock SRT-4 would and acording to chevy's specs it weighs more than an SRT-4 does those numbers seem belivable to me. |

RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
Thats complete BS, a Cobalt SS cant come close to SRT-4 times, and theyre saying it makes 262hp at the wheels?

RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
Well the shootout Motor Trend did shows otherwise. They showed both to have almost the same performance under the same conditions.
SRT-4 0-60: 6.0 sec 1/4 mile: 14.4 @ 100.8mph Cobalt SS 0-60: 6.1 sec 1/4 mile: 14.4 @ 99.3mph |
RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
262 was flywheel much less at the wheels...SRT would be higher im sure

RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
I actually got to rent a cobalt ss and it is a quick lil car; I wouldnt mind having one. But that doesnt mean that if I had a chance to buy a SRT-4 and a Cobalt ss ; I would definetly choose the srt-4 because Im DODGE THROUGH AND THROUGH!

RE: SRT4 VS COBALT SS
For starters, the article is accurate. The Cobalt SS Supercharged is actually almost spot on with the SRT-4 in terms of speeds/power stock vs. stock. It's crap on a road course, and would get its butt handed to it by an SRT-4. That being said, in terms of the 1/4 mile....for price....the Cobalt SS/C is actually the closest stock competitor to the SRT-4.
Read the article..... Quote:
Something else I want you to think about...is that the Cobalt SS/C actually only weighs about 50lbs less then the SRT-4....despite being a 2dr coupe. These cars could provide good competition for the SRT-4....in both the Neon and in the Caliber. The biggest difference is that Chevy simply wont match Dodge in performance. They have no profit in it.....and quite frankly....they dont have to....as Dodge has once again shot itself in the foot over not providing a niche car like the Cobalt/Scion tC/Civic/Accord/Solara etc etc....basically a 2dr coupe that is under 25k... Edit: Just one additional add....not every car dyno's the exact same number or runs the exact same 1/4 mile time. Some run a bit faster...some run a bit slower.. |
