hi, i have a '95 ram 4x2 318 cid. i just got it a month ago and for the second time , i was stranded along side the road. it idles and runs great, but at about a quater tank, it loses all power to go anywhere. it ll start but as you step on the gas, it backfires and cuts out. after sitting for about a half hour or so, it fires up like nothing ever happened. i put injecter cleaner, dry gas in it. i just dont want to throw a weekend and 300 bucks away towards a new pump if you guys have any clues. btw, it has 84,000 mi and runs like new otherwise. thanks duane

Happened in Oct.03 and again Thanksgiving day and the previous saturday. Have you fixed your problem yet? My truck is in shop now, but mechanic is at a loss, as it is running fine right now. Please respond as to the outcome of your situation. Thanks

Hey I have a 95 Ram that does the same thing at a 1/4 tank of gas. You get down to a quarter tank of gas and it starts running like crap. Has anyone solved the problem yet? Maybe fuel filter, pressure regulator, filter? I need help here. -thanks Dave

I am so new to this truck but from what I gather the fuel filter is actually in the tank (like on my neon). So that really is not a quick and easy thing to do like on many other cars and trucks out there. I would like to see if the mechanics here have seen a "pickup screen" or filter on the pump looked very clogged when/if they have changed out a pump. By kicking the tank it leads me to think that maybe it moves some debris away from the screen and the pump is then able to get more gas. I picture it like a dirty sink drain, if you take your finger and move the debris off the screen the water level goes down. As far as it running better on a full tank maybe its because there is more "pressure" on the screen to let more fuel go to the pump. Just trying to throw out some ideas to help.....
