Default are turbo timers necessary if you don't really race??

i recent upgraded to an 04 srt 4 with less than 15k miles on it. i've been told some of the first things to do are cai, exhaust, boost controller and turbo timer. this being my daily driver, i was wondering if freeway speeds necessitate installing a turbo timer...i'm not serious about racing (yet). i'm 1 for 4 right now on the mod's (previous owner was nice enough to install a full stainless HP racing exhaust) and intend on getting the cai soon. thanks for all the help!

also, anyone have rec on tires...pref some performance style all seasons????? (the stock bf goodrich's kind suck)

It's not necessary at all - unless, you often drive hard then park and shut the car off. According to the owners manual after normal driving you don't need a cool down, right after boosting you do - driving normal (not in boost) counts as cool down. I always let the car idle for 30seconds-minute at the least, and longer based on how I was just driving before I parked. To me it's not a big deal, others are in a bigger hurry and cant spare the few minutes. Or if you just want to not deal with or think about it at all, it's not a bad thing to have.

Rule of thumb is to let the car idle for 1 minute for normal driving, and 3 minutes for pedal mashing or transporting heavy loads. I always let the car idle for at least one minute just to be safe. I do have a turbo timer, which I have set to three minutes, mostly because I can't control my urges and often get on the gas. The turbo timer is nice because you don't have to worry about it. Also, in the morning I can start my car and remove the key and go back inside the house while it warms up. This way no one can take of in it and I also have my keys to lock the front door.

Either way, if you want your car to maintain peak performance and last, you should let the car idle long enough to cool everything off a bit and clear the really hot oil from the lines and parts that require it....

TT's are not needed if you drive normal after a few runs. some say its nice to have but its not needed at all.

yes it does have an aftermarket intercooler...forgot to mention that part. it was installed by the previous owner & from what i can tell it's from xs power (honestly never heard of them)....the guy i bought it from didn't know as it was his son's & he wasn't around. it's air2air and does a fantastic job. thanks for the help with tt's!

btw- plan b where'd you got your tt? i work before the suns up & often need to warm up the ride b4 taking off....i like the idea of being able to have it run w/o the keys in it!

Much like your intercooler, mine was on there when I bought the car. They are all over the place though. Just beware, if you are looking to buy one, try to get it from a reputable (spelling?) company for there are some "fake" ones on the market (Apexi). Check out the Apexi website, that is if you want an Apexi TT. They have an article somewhere on there on how to spot a fake....
