Default rev's going down when turning the wheel...

Hey guys, i have a 99 sport 4x4 5 spd. manual, i bought it about 3 or 4 weeks ago with a hundred thousand on it(I know, bad idea, but i loved the truck and it was the biggest one i could afford) anyways, i noticed that when i am parked or in neutral(and driving), and i turn the wheel slightly in either direction that my rpms go from about 7 or 8 hundred to about 5 hundred, is this normal? it makes a slightly odd sound that i dont exactly know how to describe..perhaps a rubbing noise. do i need to bring it in somewhere?thanx guys, any comments are appreciated.

i didnt meant that i drive in park, i meant that when i am driving and i turn i can hear the same noise and the revs go down slightly so i have to use more gas so it doesnt die in the middle of a turn. sorry, i didnt make it clear that i meant both when i was parked not moving, and also when i am driving.
