Default RE: '05 Jeep Cherokee Gets Optional HEMI V-8

Amanda, not to be rude, but its be offical for a month and a half, lol...

Jeep Grand Cherokee is the first sport-utility vehicle to offer the Multi-Displacement System (MDS). MDS deactivates half the cylinders of the 5.7-liter HEMI during cruising and light acceleration to increase fuel economy by up to 20 percent, depending on driving conditions. Ninety percent of peak torque is available from 2400 to 5100 rpm for excellent performance while trailer towing, traveling off-road as well as city and highway driving. A sophisticated Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system tailors throttle response to pedal movement based on operating conditions, and maintains more consistent vehicle speed on rolling grades when cruise control is active than the former mechanical throttle control system.

The 5.7-Liter V-8 HEMI engine that powers the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses aluminum cylinder heads with hemispherical combustion chambers, creating outstanding airflow leading to high power and torque. The engine produces 325 hp (242 kW) @ 5100 rpm and 370 lb-ft (502 N•m) @ 3600 rpm. Dual ignition (two spark plugs per cylinder) increases peak power and torque, reduces exhaust emissions, increases fuel economy and provides a smooth idle. The combustion system has been refined and the engine uses direct-mount accessories for quieter operation.

Fuel economy has also been improved, but not at the expense of HEMI performance. Chrysler Group has developed the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) that deactivates four cylinders when the V-8 is not needed. No other manufacturer offers fuel-conserving MDS in an SUV. The Chrysler Group MDS seamlessly alternates between smooth, high fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power from the 5.7-liter HEMI engine is in demand. This optimizes fuel economy when V-8 power is not needed, without sacrificing vehicle performance or towing capability.
