Default Fuel Mileage

First off, I'm new to the site. We (the Fiancee and I) bought a 99 Durango about 2 months ago. Other than some warranty work that needs to be done, the car is great. But, the gas mileage is horrible! What would you guys recommend I do about this? I fill up normally once a week and it costs me $40 or so. Everything is stock that I can see. It's an SLT 4X4, what is the rear gear ratio? Maybe that has something to do with it? Tried using Premium fuel...helped a little. Then I did something I have never done. Shut a vehicle off when knowing I'm going to be idle. It saved me .25/tank a week. I need more though. 13-14 isn't going to cut it.

Thanks,
Chris

13-14 is all your gonna get-sorry. Mine only gets 12, always has, had it since new. Never heard of a Durango getting better than 12-15. Make sure your tires are full and the engine is tuned, change oil with 5W20(thiner oil takes less power to run).

My dodge dakota make 25Km x Galon City/ 33Km x Highway.
I took of the Catalyser (but in USA is not legal) but the check engine light is on cause of the excess contaminents.
Adding cold Air intake helps. And changing the original exhaust pipe to a bigger size, lets the air flow faster out of the engine.
Headers with the pipes also.

Fuel additives to keep the EFI system clean also helps.

Or the expenssive way (Get a Diesel Engine Automobile)

seanery-

Have you heard bad things about this supposed product? I was looking for ways to save gas, not get ripped off! And to boot, I look nothing like a Guinnea Pig......or do I? Heh!

I asked some other knowledgable friends.
Their response:
"If it were that simple, wouldn't all the manufacturers do it?"

there are a lot of folks that try to take advantage of people looking for:
1. more power
2. more efficiency

pure snake oil.
