Default Rental 06 Charger

My Dakota is in the body shop, and I have an 06 Charger as a rental. Other than the hubcaps I think it is styled very well. One thing that I don't understand however is that it has a 2.7l V6. I cannot find anything on the 2.7l, not even at the Dodge website. Does anybody else have one or know where I can get some 2.7l specs?? If I like the numbers I just may buy one, the only option I want.... aluminum wheels.

Gary, the charger will very possibly beat a stock 99 cobra...it depends on the trim line.

Some guys have gotten a Charger RT into the 13s with very minor mods, and I have seen plenty of n/a cobras struggling with 13s, so with a less than pwerfect driver in the RT, it may give a cobra a good run. however, if it is a Charger SRT8, someone on this forum has gotten into the 12.80s with very basic mods like exhaust and a better intake system...which would almost keep up with a stock 'terminator'...as i have seen them running in the high 12s stock...and as for the 99 cobra, the SRT8 charger should make very short work of it.

the 2.7L is available only in the fleet models. if you buy one ti comes with the much better 3.5L.

One of my best friends is the sales manager for a Dodge dealership and advised the Chargers that are set aside for rental or fleet vehicles is a 2.7L V6 and gets around 22-23 mpg in the city. It does not have near the power of the 3.5L V6 High Output and even further from the 5.7L Hemi.

A buddy of mine was chasing one of the Chargers the other day and couldnt keep up with it. Turns out, it was a rental car Charger. I just laughed b/c he told me how quick it was. I told he couldnt even fathom how quick the Hemi was then.

Well the car is not fast by any means, but I wouldn't consider it underpowered. The little 2.7 seems to get it around fairly well. I didn't have too much trouble getting it up to 110, but it forced an OD shift and fell on it's face. Otherwise not all too bad.

I can confirm that Hertz rent a car, in Houston has Charger R/T's for rental. see my other post. I do not have any pricing info. They also have 300C Hemi's. This does not surprise me, Hertz has a rich heritage of renting high performance American Cars. In 1968/69 they rented the GT-350H Shelby Cobra Mustang. The 'H' designation was only on the custom Hertz rental cars. They are a prized collectors item today!

According to www.dodge.ca, the 2.7L DOHC V6 produces 190 horsepower and 190 lbs-ft of torque. Apparentally the Canadian version of the SE is equipped with this engine as standard other than the 3.5L that comes stock in the American version of the SE.

Canadians have different needs and wants so they get different options. as for the "forced OD shift" i think that is teh governor. it limits its top speed because of the max tire speed, so they don't blow out.

Not all rental fleet vehicles are 2.7L, this very well could have been a HEMI.
