Mods Techy Question - 2/22/2006 1:45:36 PM

Hi all!!

Former Ford and GM guy whos been sucked over to Dodge by the Charger Daytona. Never have I been so excited about a car nor have I been inclined to spend the extra $$ on any aftermarket mods. Which brings me to my question (My first on this forum): I've purchased 3 mods; Stage 2 Perf Chip, K&N Cold Air intake and a Borla Exhaust system. I read somewhere that the chip will take up to 2 weeks to "learn" my car before it makes any adjutments. So my question is if I should install theses mods in any sort of sequence. IE: filter and intake, then the chip. Or does it really matter? Only asking because I have the two simple installations now but I'm still waiting for the exhaust to show up... and... well.... I really wanna play!!

Thanks in advance for any help/input!!

Bob

Congrats on your new Daytona and welcome to the world of Dodge! :)

If I were you, I would wait to install the chip until you have your exhaust installed. If the chip is going to "learn" your car, it might as well do it when it knows how much extra flow your new exhaust will provide. Just my two cents!

I agree with Dartman69. I put the MP CAI, Magnaflow full cat-back exhaust and the JET Stage 2 chip in mine. The Stage 2 is really for use ONLY if you have the intake modified (CAI) and freer flowing exhaust. FWIW, it did seem to take about a week and a half to 2 weeks for mine to really wake up with the chip. Good luck, and welcome to the wonderful world of MOPAR!!!

Thanks Guys!! I figured as much. My exhaust is "supposed" to be here tomorrow. But this chip and CAI are really talking to me as I type this post. FYI... I went with the K&N 63-114 series intake and the Borla T-304 (agressive) exhaust with the 5" tips. My wallet prays those were good choices. From what I have read, seems like those that have made the same purchases have been happy.

Bob, I'm sure your choices will be great! Another thought - if you got the JET Stage 2 chip, it says they recommend a difference thermostat, but I, and others, didn't change from what is originally in the engine, and as far as I know, no one has had any problems. So, I would try it first to make sure it doesn't run hot, but mine runs the same temp as it did before installing the chip.

PS: How about some pics of your new ride!

Dave,

Thanks for the input. I saw the recommendation about the 180 degree t-stat. I also saw some of the posts about not worrying about it so I will do as you say and take the wait and see attitude and definately keep an eye on the temp. I live in AZ so with 350 degree temps in August, it could be an issue :-)

As for the pics.... they will come very soon. Waiting so I can show off those fat tips coming out the rear end! Would really like to upgrade the wheels too but it took 2 months of being a really good wifey just to get these goodies! Kidding. She loves the car too. Never saw anyone so happy to stop at a light or a stop sign... just so she stomp the pedal. lol

Take Care!

Bob, hope everything works out just great for ya. I've considered the TB spacer as I'm told it helps the bottom end to mid-range power. I'd like to hear more about these, and which ones work and which ones are just hype.

Take care, your-own-self.

Yea I saw that too. Theres alot a lot of talk about a mod to completely disable the ESP but it sounds a little "buggy" right now. I'm anxious to hear about this tuner thats supposedly coming out within a couple weeks. If all goes well and it does what it says, I may look for a "partner" here in the Phoenix area to go in on one since they look a bit pricey.

Bob, from what I understand, the tuner will only work on one car. It down loads all of the "stock" stuff, and uploads all the "good" stuff. So, once it's uploaded, it can't be uploaded again, until the "good" stuff is downloaded, again.

yes so if you gotta take her back in the shop load th stock program back into her or they may look at it and go wtf. Then flash it back in there with the stock one then your tuner is usless, that is a good tip from a friend of mine whos been messing with these forever. The ESP is more than TC its a safety feature also this is what I got from Edwin, when I chatted with him on the phone.Good choice on the BORLA if you want I can email you a pick of mine with those 5" they sound really good 2.

Baldy, are you saying that if you upload all the "good" stuff with the tuner, then down load it and upload the "stock" stuff, you can't go back and download the "stock" stuff and re-upload the "good" stuff anymore? You have me confused, but I live in that state most of the time. Looking to relocate to another state, though :-).

Hey Baldy...

Heck yea.. if you've got a pic... shoot it over! I cant wait to get it all installed... really looking forward to the looks when I blow past the other yahoos on the road. :-) I assume you got the "agressive" as well? How is the db in the cabin of the car. I'm a little concerned about talking on my cell and being able to hear okay. Course, thats in addition to drinking my coffee, and eating my egg McMuffin while I steer with my knee :-)
