I am hoping to upgrade my airflow system, possibly with K&N.
I was wondering what all I would need to do to facilitate the extra air.
Would I have to upgrade everything from intake to exhaust?
I don't have much money, but I don't want to do anything halfway on my truck.

It is a '96 with a 318. As far as I know everything is stock.

No, it's not a Hemi... Everyone knows that the big boys only need to use Magnum!

K&N setup for a 96 is $100. You can probably make the 97 up one work if you wanna pay $250 for it. Otherwise take off the rain guard in front if the intake tube and get a K&N filter for about $30.

Or, find a 97 up air hat, and use some intake pipe from autopart store or pvc, and make a cold air system with a cone filter.

Just changing the filter will not require an exhaust change. If you added an M1, ported TB, cam and rockers, then an exhaust upgrade would be in order.

Yea, what he said. Exhaust will kill your bottom end power, without some mods.

Well, in my my opinion, go with a kit system, they are provem to fit and warrenties are nice, then, exaust system, a dual straight-pipe flows best, after that gets boring, strap on an M1, have fun, leave your system until you can get a few ricers under your belt.

Usually, to port your TB, you take it to a machine shop where they Re-drill it to make it bigger, allowing more fuel and air therefore increasing power and torque

You can do it yourself with a bur, but it is not recomended. Have someone do it that knows what they are doing or you may destroy the one you have.

Ok so the thinks thatcover the holes and open and close how dou get bigger ones to fit the new holes and how big would u go

For a 318 50mm is fine. 52mm is about as big as I would go, and then only if you have significant mods to the engine to support the increased airflow. Just grind the top flat and remove the torque step in the bores. Do not remove anything below the thrrottle plates.
