RE: Need Help Finding A Lift Kit for my Dakota
TanookieMan,
This is my 1st time on the forum, just joined. I'm looking into buying a Quad Cab 4x4 myself and been doing some research on lift kits. I've found a 5.5" suspension lift from Tuff Country (tuffcountry.com / (800) 288-2190). It's about $1500 + install, I've done a Rancho IFS lift on a Chevy S-10 and unless you have proper tools and knowledge I wouldn't recomend doing it yourself. I think the approximate install time is around 10-15 hours. There is also a body lift kit available (both 2" & 3") for about $200 (not installed). The install is somewhat easier, I've done a few of these (S-10, Nissan and Mazda trucks). The 5.5" kit calls for 33" tires but I would like to run 35's so I'm considering the 2" body lift combo. I know some people frown on body lifts but I've had nothing but good luck with them (even after some light off roading). One definite bad thing about the body lift is that it shows the frame too much, nothing a nice set of custom nerfbars can't take care of.
Rancho Suspensions offers a 2.5" suspension lift which includes a pair of lift spindles. Before I go with the body lift I'm going to look into using just the Rancho spindles (less the rest of the kit) in conjunction with the 5.5" Tuff country lift. I'll keep you posted on my findings.
I included a pic of my 89 S-10 (7.5" lift, 35" tires, V-8 swap), it was on the cover of Off Road mag back in June 98.
