DEARBORN, Mich., Feb 3, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Michigan-based Ford Motor Co. won't develop a high-performance version of its Explorer Sport Trac pickup.
The No. 2 U.S. carmaker also says it will halt production of both the Lincoln LS sedan and Ford GT sports car this year, the Detroit News said Friday.
Ford sold 1,302 of its $150,000 GT sports cars last year. It was inspired by the legendary Ford GT-40 racecars that swept Le Mans in 1966.
Full-scale production began in 2004 and it appeared in showrooms as a 2005 and 2006 model.
No, not at all. The GT was a waste of money. They should have invested the money they spent on this car on making the Five Hundred more appealing, like making it actually look good or give it an engine that actually had power and refinement. I hate to see the LS discountinued. They could have turned this car around by dropping in a supercharged 4.6L or 5.4L to compete with the CTS-V and the imported luxury/performance sedans.

I agree, the LS was an awesome car. I test drove one and the lady where I work has one...It's a very nice car. I'd sooner see them bring the price down on it then discontinue it.
the ls could use a refresh, but don't kill the there best car. i know the reason, they are closing the wixom plant where the town car, ls, gt, and thunder-chicken were made. the town car though is a Lincoln crown Vic if i remember right.

It pretty much is just a rebadged Crown Vic, with about double the price with few additional options to justify it.

I'm surprised they would drop the LS, that's one of the few Ford vehicles I liked, they were really nice cars and sold well, the GT I can understand though, it's very low sales car so an obvious cut with all their financial problems.

Who wants to spend double MSRP on the GT? I think dealers had some part in the reason for the GT's exit. Plus that little recall they had all over the news didn't help it.
