I have a 05 Dakota SLT 4x4. It has a 3.7L, and I think it has a towing package, It has a tow/haul button on gear shifter, and a 2" reciver with 2 different light hook ups. It all looks factory. My question is what is the towing capacity, and the weight of the vehicle?

It sounds like it has the tow pkg. from your discription. The two different outlets are one is for a four flat(running/parking lights, turn sig & brakes) 2nd one is for 7 round (Running/parking lights, back up lights, turn L&R,power brakes, brake lights and D/C power).

Im not sure what the tow cap is on the 3.7L I thought it was like 4,200(Im not to sure)now you have a 4X4 so it's gonna be a lil less with that option as well, also it depends on what gearing you have if it's 3.92 it'll be higher than with the 3.55.

If you go to your glove box you'll find a sticker it'll have all the specs. for you tow cap, tounge weight, gearing & your truck weight.

Zen,

My book for 06 Dakotas has the following figures for a 3.7L 4x4:

The CC has a payload of 1,550 lbs and a maximum towing of 4,700 lbs
The QC has a payload of 1,440 lbs and a maximum towing of 4,600 lbs

It does not list a vehicle weight. The sticker on the door will give you GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) and this figure is what the manufacturer has set as the recommended gross limit of the vehicle. The GAWR (each axle) is the max load on the axle. It is not your current weight.

I have a new 2006 QC 4.7L 4x4 that I am calculating weights for towing my camper. To get an accurate picture of my "dry weight" I drove to a CAT scale and had it weighed ($8) and with all my addons + me + dog + full tank of gas, my front axle was 2960, rear axle was 2300 and combining the two gives me a total vehicle weight of 5260. That is the figure I work with as a "dry weight." The GVWR for my Dak is 6,600 lbs. and I have the 3.92 RER. The book does not distinguish tow ratings for different rear ends.

I do not believe there is that much difference between the specs for 05 and 06.
