Any stock wheel from early 80's to 96 Dakotas will fit.
The late model closed spoke rim (15x7) COULD POSSIBLY fit with some spacing and longer studs.
The open spoke late model wheels will not fit (15x8) at least on a 2WD.
RT wheels will fit with either thick wheels spacers and longer studs. Or Grind the control arm. run an 8th in. spacer. Hammer down the dust cap and call it a day. You can cut the centers out of old brake drums to make your spacers for the 17 in. RT wheels.

2nd Gen came stock with 31in. tires. The open spoke 15x8 will go on a 4x4. There is a guy on this forum that has them on his. Contact JDakota92.

The RT wheels will fit with modifications as I stated above.
I have not tried the the 16's personally, because judging how the 17's fit on my truck. The lip on a 16in. wheel will be right next to the upper control arm. It probably would fit with some grinding and spacing, but like I said. The 17's on my truck ride just above the control arm, so it could be a problem.

have 235/75/15 on them now .. i was gonna put 255 is that to big ?
cause im not sure what size 31" tires are if they have an actual size .. the 15" rim you said open spoke will directly fit on my truck ?
sorry im a newb and a lil slow on tires lol
like what size is the tire tat is 31" or they dont have a size like 235 255 etc ?
<-- are these the 15" 15x8 that you said would directly fit my truck ~

The wheel in the picture will fit your truck. It is a 15x8 and categorized as an open spoke configuration. I wont say they will directly fit but they will go on there. You need to talk to JDakota92 about that.
A 31in. tire can equate to anything from a 245 to a 265, it just depends on the other number. 255 should fit a 4x4, but you need to hold it up there and see.

Thanks for the reference 360DakotaPwr. 31" tires can rub on a '87 - '96 Dakota. I tried fitting them and I wasn't satisfied by the close clearance. I have 30x9.5/R15's and they fit perfectly. The next generation of Dakota's have bigger wheel wells which allowed for bigger tires. 31's came stock on 4x4 Dakota's and Durango's.

For anyone else having questions about fitting the 15x8 wheels on a '87-'96 Dakota, there are two ways to do this. One, have some custom spacers made (1/4" for the front is needed to clear the brake caliper line bolt). An old brake drum or even an old wheel will do fine. I happen to have a set that were custom made out of my old 15x6 wheels. I went a different route as I couldn't find longer studs with more threads. I instead ground down that brake line bolt just a little bit and then to go with it, had the inner lip of the wheels machined to clear the brakes. I only cut out ~1/16" or less and in about an inch. It's difficult to explain. The integrity of the wheel was not compromised. They've been on for 2.5 years and have put on about 25k miles with no problems. I've even gone off road with them and again, no problems. I would have prefered to go with the first option, but the spacers are illegal where I am and I couldn't find the longer studs to support them.

No Problem Man.
I agree with him, find longer wheel studs and use spacers. Racing catalogues should sell them. Find out the size and thread dimensions and you shouldnt have any problems ordering them. Its a pretty common size.

235/75/R15 is the stock size for the early Dakota's. I had the 30x9.5R15's on the original 15x6 rims. Like I stated above, 31's might fit, but might also rub. So to answer your last question, you can go a bit bigger. The tires you have now measure up to about 28-29" tall. 30's fit with no problems. 31's will be tight.

No you won't need any spacers for those rims. Those are 15x6 and will bolt right on with no modifications. A 30x9.50 inch tire will fit just fine.
