i am looking at buying a '01 durango slt plus with the 5.9 motor. it is a one owner that has been well maintained except... he never changed the tranmission fluid. when i fly in to look at his truck are there any items that should be looked at closely. also has anyone had any luck increasing the mpg of this motor? K&N? Mobil 1? etc. hope to make the flight next week sometime so your response will be appreciated.

Make sure he had the recall done on the ball joints. If not you can have them done. If you want gas mileage better buy a car. This is a bad a$$ truck. I get 11.5-13 MPG's in city and 15-17.4 on the hi way. That's good enough for me.[sm=gears.gif] Have that trans fluid and filter done!
