Why does it look like the center counsel thing, where the shifter is, is cocked towards the drivers side? Not sure if its supposed to be like that or just an optical illusion, but it kinda intrigues me

well, i think that this center console is supposed to be a copy of the slapstick console...but the angled shifter is similar to what the newer stangs have...first gear is right against your leg.

I sure hope it doesn't have a shifter like the new stangs. They are a pain to hit 3rd gear in shifting quickly

A couple of things since I've seen these new and better pics.

1. Why the heck is there a Challenger badge on the rear sides? I just don't understand it.
2. I still hate the tail lights. Ugly.
3. Why is the 6.1L HEMI being called the R/T? Why not SRT-8?
4. I still would like to see it more aerodynamicly styled.
5. What the hell is up with the shifter?
6. If the rumored weight is correct. If this thing is gonna be 4,000 lbs, more or less. I really don't understand how it could weigh that much.

Other than that, I love this thing. I love the RWD part, the HEMI part, the major horses and the coupe part. It's a great remake. In fact, it's the best remake yet. Better than the Mustang.

My Answers:
1. They are to distinguish the challenger from all the other cars that look like it. Seriously though, they are really easy to take off if it goes into production like that
2. I think they look good, so I guess that ones just personal preference.
3. Thats the show car, and its made up to look as much like a new age 1970's Challenger. In 1970 the R/T was the car to have, not the SRT. Many older folks recognize the R/T from their generation and may have no clue was SRT means, and realistically they aren't marketing this car to the teenage crowd but instead to the people that can afford it.
4. No me. The body lines look great. It wouldn't be made un-aerodynamicly so they must have done extensive tests to get it to look retro and still be semi-aerodynamic. Again, mostly just opinion on how it looks.
5. That one boggles me too
6. The Charger wieghs in at 4100lbs. The challenger will be a coupe version of that based on a platform that is 4.1" shorter. I'm guess it will weigh in around 3900lbs +/- 100lbs. In drag racing terms, 100lbs = .1 seconds. Mustang GT wieghs about 3750, so about 200lbs lighter making it .2 sec quicker given the same power. But, the Challenger R/T even with the 5.7, will be looking at 425hp vs. 300hp. Even overrated by 50hp, it still has 75 ponies over the pony car. That should easily make up for the .2 seconds. Or there is always aftermarket LT's, cams, heads, nitrous, and I'm sure a turbo/supercharger kit within a year.

Thats my 92 cents
