Default A/C problem 04 durango

SLT Hemi 1100 miles

Once in awhile the A/C will blow warm instead of cold. Anyone else having this problem or know the cause.

We have a 04 Limited with the auto temp control, and have had the same problem occasionally. We notice it on a hot day (90+) after it has sat for about 30 minutes after driving. When we get back in and start it up, it only blows warm air (no AC), although the auto system is going at max blow trying to cool itself down. Revving the engine and/or shutting off the engine and restarting has worked for us.

It has only happened 3 or 4 times, and it hasn't done it lately, so we haven't taken it to the dealer yet.

I too have an 04 Limited with the auto temp control, and have had the same problem occasionally (twice to be exact). I have had the vehicle for about 5 weeks now. I noticed that the first time that it occurred, I had started the vehicle and selected the "Auto" function on the AC. It came on but only blew warm air, no matter what I did to the temperature adjustment. I even changed from "Auto" to "Manual" AC with no change. I then powered off the AC using the "Off" function and then turning back on again with the "Auto" function and still no cold air. The only way that I could get it to work was to stop the vehicle and shut off the engine and then restart the engine. The air conditioner immediately started blowing cold air when I selected the "Auto" function. The second time it occurred, I immediately shut the vehicle off and then restarted it with the same results. It almost appears that the microprocessor for the AC system gets locked up somehow, and by turning the vehicle off then on causes it to reset (kind of like a home PC getting locked up, requiring a power reset or reboot). When I took it to the service dealer to have them check the AC system out, they basically said that since it was working at the moment, that there was nothing that they could do (to fix it). I insisted that they document it on their service order however.

Get down to the dealer and have the problem checked out and Documented. If enough people have the same problem it will raise a red flag back at the assy. plant... There might be a problem with the A/C clutch relays or the program in the controll unit itself. Im not sure I dont know too much about the A/C.. Also search the web for any TSB's or recalls you never know whats out there.

Mine was pretty a pretty simple fix. Hopefully yours too.

I had the exact same problem when i got my durango last month. I took it to the dealer the first week. They replaced the switch and checked the sensore.
This didn't fix the problem. Took it back the moment i drove around the block. We popped the hood and tinkered around. We eventaully found out that it was just the WIRING that sometimes looses contact, and this makes the compressor turn off. They just secured the wiring and the switch and that solved it.

Too bad someone tried to break in my durango and now its in the shop again...repaced the door handle and repainted the driver's door. They weren't able to get in tho

i had the ac issue fixed today. the dealer said several durangos and trucks r coming in with this problem and the cause is that the factory has overfilled all of them by a half pound.sounds wierd that is what i said but he insisted that every one who has had this problem is overfilled by a half pound.

have the problem to and what they told me is dodge is aware of the problem, what has to happen is the pcm needs a new program, so its a software issue should be out in a couple of weeks, the computer is telling the clutch not to engage which is why at certain times the compressor doesnt go on, when you pull the fuse or clear the codes or restart it, it works fine, but the problem will still be there
