Default Charger SRT8 Questions

My fully loaded SRT8 is scheduled for delivery in 2 weeks, I have a few questions for those who already have the car (thanks):
1. I am looking at adding a cool air intake. Do you recommend the Mopar unit or the K&N unit? Is there any difference in the sound impact due to the fact that one is metal and the other a plastic? Do they both add about 20 HP?
2. Has anyone looked at the exhaust upgrades or the chip for the car??
Thanks,
Tim

I have 2000 miles on my Charger SRT8 and have the same questions. I think the car is so new that no one is really sure. I have bought the K&N filter but have yet to install. Although I heard it does give a throatier sound.

I have not heard mine (1200 mi 11/19/05) but I have heard this gives a good idea of the takeoff sound. http://videos.streetfire.net/Player....F37F&kw=34&p=2

I am new to this forum and just read your question about modifications on the SRT8. I have installed the K&N Air Intake on my Charger SRT8 and it does make the car accelerate with much more force. I also lose traction almost all the time with 3/4 throttle takeoffs. The sound also has increased from the engine compartment and exhaust. The Air Intake is a must have for this car. I would not spend the money on an exhaust system unless you want it louder. From what I have read, it doesn't really increase your horsepower that much since the factory exhaust is pretty wide open. I personally think a good upgrade would be to get stickier tires. I have the summer tires on mine and it just cannot hold this car. I am betting that if I can get some grip it will drop the 0-60 time to under 5 seconds. Any suggestions??

Do you feel like you are loosing traction or do you actually spin tires? My SRT has always felt like it was on the verge of spinning but never really does. (ESP turned completly off)

I have the Goodyear all season tires that came on the car. Soon I will have to buy new ones.

I have a 06 Srt8 charger, i have had for about a month now. I have 1800 miles on it and a couple of days ago I customized my exhaust. I did the straight piping all the way back. I is really loud , but it also does have a little more pull. Besides that I have a one other mod which is my locking gas cap , lol. I do plan on getting a K & N filter soon, I am just too lazy to pick it up.

The tires smoke with the ESP on. Eventually the ESP will activate, slow the car down and the tires will grab. Of course when this happens my 0-60 time is not going to be the fastest. In fact, even if I am rolling, the tires will break loose. The ONLY modification I have made is the Air Intake. Nothing else. I really want to get a tire that sticks to the road. My SRT8 cannot be the only one that does this. One important thing to note was that it did not start doing this until after the Air Intake was done. The car really picked up horsepower with it.
