ive been thinking about getting a dodge, but by the time i get my money together i will only be able to get my hands on an 06' and im a little concerned with this dumb idea of turning off the cylinders. seems like it would severely hinder performance. especially if you are doing autox and constantly off/on the gas
Does anyone think there will be a way to disable this program, or is it just something the 06' hemi's are stuck with
I've had my 06 Ram with the Multidisplacement Hemi for just over a month. I've put on about 1300 miles on it. Personally I can't even tell when the cylinders shut off or come back on. I've had many people ride in my truck and no one has been able to say they felt it. As for power, I've towed the same trailer with about the same weight with my 06 and with my old 05. I didn't tell much of a difference between them. However; don't let the dealership or anyone else bulls***t you about better fuel economy. I've only seen about a 1-2 mpg increase and I'm sure that's only circumstancial. I think more mileage will better tell. Hope this helps.

I have the new 06 TRX4. It has almost 4000 miles. Runs great. I geta couple miles per gallon less than my 04 got but it was 2 wheel drive. So thats not bad. I love it. Best truck I have ever had. I can not tell if it ever drops a cylinder.
Im not talking about MPG, im talking about the power. It seems like this would seriously effect your off the line power when drag racing.
well first off all...all you seem to be concerned with is autox and drag racing....WHY ARE YOU BUYING A 5500lb truck then!!!! lol
anyway....the only time the MDS comes in is when is senses you are cruising and not accelerating substaintially.
for instance...the valves will only shutdown if you are cruising on the highway at 50-60mph or so for more than a minute or so.
if you are flooring the throttle....pulling a trailer up a grade, etc etc...the valves wont shut down.....ONLY when it senses you are at a sustained speed. or driving slow through town.
what he said... your engine is by default a V-8 that turns into a V-4 under light load... from my understanding it takes roughly 1 engine revolutin to go from v-4 to v-8 mode, this takes roughly 0.060 seconds at idle or 0.028 at 65 mph. rour average human needs .1 or .2 seconds to react... your tranny will take 3 or 4 times that to down shift... There are enogh other time delays built in between your accelerator pedal and your flywheel that the miniscule time delay that the MDS take will be unnoticeable. Your change in E.T. will be more affected for if you filled up your windsheild washer fluid tank than by your MDS...
Well, for example I have had my 06 for three months and 5000 miles and that entire time I dident know I had the MDS system, I thought it was a option I dident get. Well as of last week I found out I had MDS and have never noticed anything that would have made me think I had it.. So basicly you will never notice you have MDS if you get it..
