Default Transmission band adjustment ??

Doing a transmission fluid / filter change on my 98 Ram 1500 5.9 today and want to adjust bands while I'm under there, however found different spec's for the 46RE and the 47RE, not sure which one I have, anyone know how I can tell, and also couldn't find spec's for 98's, if anyone has info handy I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

I believe in a different thread we had concluded that the adjustment is the same as the previous(97)/following (99) year's adjustment...since the specs for 97 and 99 are the same. You should be able to double check that with your local dealer though.

You have a 46RE transmission because it is a 1500 5.9, 47RE is for heavy duty 5.9 liters and 8.0 liters.
The Front Band (outside the case) for an 98' is Tightened to 72 in-lbs, back off 2 7/8 turns
The Rear Band (inside the case) is Tightened to 72 in-lbs, back off 2 turns

The adjusting screw locknut is torqued to 30 front and 25 rear in-lbs

Default RE: Transmission band adjustment ??

my question for the rear band adjustment.... where the hell do u get the square socket for the adjusting screw to tighten it to 72 in lbs?

i went to three different stores and none sold it and all had puzzled looks on there faces.

so to make sure what i am doing is right....

loosen the lock nut, and back it out 5 turns . 5 complete 360 turns, right? then tighten the adjsuting screw to 72 in lbs? then tighten the lock nut back up to 25 or 30 ft lbs?

i have a 46re tranny on a 5.9 2001 2wd
i am lost in translating the different specs out there. the haynes manual says 3 turns other people are saying 4 turns then there is the 2 7/8 turns, what the hell?
