Default ’96 Neon Speedometer

The speedometer on my '96 Neon is giving me problems. When I drive the car a few miles, get out of it for a few minutes then get back in it and start driving, the speedometer stops working. If the car sits for a couple of hours, I don't have a problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.......

My Shelby Z is the same way and I just haven't bothered to check into it. It just comes and goes at random when it wants to. If you notice, when the speedo stops working so does the odometer, not necessarily a bad thing. Especially if you plan to sell it later on, it'll have a lot lower mileage showing than it really has.

Thanks 'Runner....but with all of the Laser Radar units around the Atlanta area, I like to know how fast I am going. If I beat on the dash hard enough the thing will start working...but that gets old.

I bought another one from a salvage yard....now I need to know how to reset the odometer to either '000000' or to my current mileage. Any ideas on that?

Usually, when there is an issue with a Speedometer, Chrysler will program the replacement at the factoryit before they send it... so I don't know if there is a way to adjust it... Short of breaking into it (it's not digital...? Right? ) and rolling it yourself.

Thanks...that's not what I wanted to hear, but that's what I EXPECTED to hear. No, it's not digital. And from past experiences with the factory prices I doubt I will be going the dealer route for a new one.

I haven't had the best experiences with dealerships.....$1200.00 to replace a catalytic(sp?) converter on my Dakotawas a bit high for me....so when I told them no thanks, they didn't bother to do the steering box recall work either...

And that's just one experience.....

That is bad... and they are required BY LAW to do your recalls... Where are you located?
