Ford to cut 7,500 jobs

Following last weeks announcement by GM that they were cutting 30,000 jobs the Wall Street Journal is reporting Ford is about to cut 7,500 jobs.

The report claimed Ford would probably shut down assembly plants in St. Louis, Atlanta and St. Paul, Minn., along with an engine-parts facility in Ontario and a truck-assembly plant in Mexico

I read it was only 3500 jobs...originally

I feel the pain my fellow UAW brothers and sisters. My gut feeling tells me they are going to have to lay off more than 7,500. I think we are going to find out it will be more like twice that number come June 2006.[sm=imsorry.gif]

I'm not a big fan of GM, Ford, etc..but I'm even less of fan of layoffs. Good luck to them.

Well it kinda sux how ppl lose their jobs over their company's mess-ups, perhaps they should be given the option for the lay-off the CEO and CFO and everyone who runs it to the ground w/ poor engineering decisions as well as bad judgement.

I find it funny that Ford continues to pay almost $50K per month for an empty and closed Ford dealership in Minneapolis. The dealership closed in August of 2004 and Ford is paying basically 50K in rent to hold the site control in hopes that someone will re-open the site as a Ford dealership. Fords site control runs out in early 2009. Someone else has control of the site after Fords runs out.

August 2004 to December 2005 = $800,000 in wasted rent. What would the board think of that explanation?

$800,000 is a drop in the 'bucket'. I've spent the last two months scrapping out a cool million a day in prototype parts from our stock crib / warehouse. And no, I can not save anything for anyone, not even me! [sm=headbang.gif]

I would guess those parts were used for product development though. That is money well spent. Would you pay for something that has no use?
