Hi John, there are two opportunities: 1. The expensive one (I donīt think so, but its still possible) Your ABS-Module is blown. You could check this on aempty slippery way.Accelerate till 30mph -open the door look at your rear wheels they īre donīt allowed to stop and skidding while fullbreak, they have to rotate while breaking. If they rotate evenat fullbreak the ABS is ok.</P>

2. The lousy one.The ABS got sensors at the rearaxle-drum and maybe at the front calipers.(Depends on your version)Some time the pluglost contact so the ABS-Module get no back-datas and then it says. Caution - NO ABS-Brake.Check this, its my favorit.</P>

PS.: Let us now, if Iīm right for further problems, please</P><edited><editID>DODGE Germany</editID><editDate>37931.5447800926</editDate></edited>

Hey Bigcat !! (Lil`Cat?) kind of coward, huh ??<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">You could take a real good buddy for looking from the bed on the rearwheels and if you make a fullbreak heīs bashing into the cabin. <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"> Sound thatīs better ?? Mikel</P>

sounds like the sensor on top of the rear housing is defective check for water in the connections. if not replace "RWAL" sensor.let me know.ive worked for dodge for 23 years ."MOE"

Thanks for the reply, Moe.</P>

I pulled the plug and checked the connections, andsprayed them all down.</P>

I also pulled the plug on the RWAL and checked the connections, the light is still on.</P>

I would guess the RWAL is shot?</P>

I've got a similar if not the same problem.

The ABS and Brake light both illuminate when my speed reaches about 40MPH, then they stay on until I turn off the truck. When I start it up again, the lights are off until I'm close to the 40MPH range again.

I already replaced the RWAL sensor on top of the rear differential, I still have the same problem.

Being curious, I disconnected the wire from the new RWAL sensor as another test. When disconnected, both lights turn on and stay on as soon as the truck is started.

I also have the same problem my ABS & Brake light stay on in my 1999 Dodge Ram 4x2, I also noticed that my odometer start reading after I hit 20 to 25 MPH. I did some research and I found out that it can be my speed sensor. I am going to hook up a diagnostic reading this weekend. I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks

JDodge00,
I can almost gurantee that your problem is the speed sensor on your rear differential. I had the exact same problem in my 2001 4X4 Ram 1500. The speed sensor on the rear differential is responsible for the speedometer speed as well as the RWAL. At least this was the problem with my truck...The part was 33 bucks and really easy to change...

Thanks

Go to a dealer and buy part # 56028187AE for about $35.00 and your lights should go off, this is a common problem. I see this problem almost daily. Don't pay for a diagnosis, TRUST me this will fix your problem. Or call me at 1-800-663-2522 and ask for David and i will ship you one.

I dont know what kind of electronics knowledge you have, but there is an easy way to diagnose the sensor if you know how to use a multimeter. or if you know how much resistance the sensor has you can go buy a resistor at radioshack for like $0.10 and wire it between...if you have the right resistor and wire it correctly the light will go out confirming that its the rwal sensor. any auto tech should be able to do that or use a scan tool to confirm it.

wOW......first topic I find is one of my problems...........same week my airconditioner craps out on my '99-1500 4x2 ,the ABS and Brake warning lights come on.......later that day my speedometer stops reading too.[:@]
Thank You for the info!!
Now, if I could get Dodge to help out with the air problem that it seems many of these trucks have in the evaporator.....mileage is only 59k.

Yet again same problem with my dodge ram 1500 4X2 Sport w/ 360 5.9L. I also lifted it 5" and put 33"s on there. There is my problem. The 33s screwed up my calibration in my computer. I went to summitracing and bought a Jet Accu-Speed recalibrater ($150 well spent). This will solve the problem and give you smoother shifting and a few extra horse power if you have modified the tire size.

P.S. this was after i replaced the speed sensor without it solving my problems.

I have a 1998 4x4 and my ABS and brake light come on after my pedal goes soft.. I have changed my brakes all the way around along with checking the fluid and still no help. I have notice that my rear wheels will lock up when on a slick surface. I just got my truck back from the shop and they said they could not find anything at this time. HELP!!
