I was wondering what kind of mileage you all are getting on your R/T's AWD or not. I have a brand new R/T AWD. I just filled up this morning right before I got on the expressway. I merged on, accellerating steadily and smoothly and continued to run at 75mph for 20 miles and only got 21.3mpg. Is this normal? I thought this thing was supposed to get 24mpg. I was expecting more. Will I get better mileage as the car breaks in or is that was I should expect. The outside air temp was 48°. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Don't trust the computer, mine shows .5 to 1.5 MPG HIGH....better to do the math when you fill up.
I average 17.5, mostly secondary highways at 60 MPH, not aggressive but passing when needed, with many slowdowns for small towns, 8 towns/villages on a 33 mile commute. I wish I could get a real 21.3 MPG, that is about what I get with my AWD Passat.
But I don't care, I just grin and bear it, because it's a Magnum.

Yep, that sounds about right.
Wife does not drive hard, and the best I have seen on the computer is 21.
4,000 miles on, will start checking mileage for kicks.

As your engine breaks in your milage does get noticable better. Our other car was averaging 16 at first, now at 5k miles its in the mid 20s. I personally would be happy with 21 from a hemi, even though it is MDS.

Olddad, how do you drive it? I would guess not "grandpa style"?

Crazymjb- your right. I thought you could order the R/T with the 3.5 V6. Thankx
I drive it through an easy warm-up, then I put my best foot forward. Have not done any WOT from a stop but have run it up to 100 getting on the interstates.

Sounds like I am right in there then. Just seems funny that our Volvo XC90 with a V8 gets better mileage. Thanks for the info.

Well the volvo is running of a 4.4, which makes 29 less horse power and 65 fewer ftlbs of torque then the 5.7 and is only hauling about 500 more pounds. So a slight MPG increase would be expected, especially with the limitations on the MDS(6 minute on time, off during high speeds and most acceleration). The RT will also take Plus while it is probably a good idea to use Premium in the XC90, which brings operating costs even closer.

I have an RT Hemi and the very worst Ive gotten is around 19mpg. I get over 25 on the hiway on trips all the time. I generally never use A/C and only myself or one passenger most of the time. I got 20 mpg towing a Ferrari 308 on a dolly from Columbus to Pittsburg on interstate with cruise control.

Wow, that's great mileage. How many miles are on your car? Did your MPG get better over time once your vehicle got more miles on it?

Well after 26k and using Ams oil and filter and new tires . I am getting 21 with mixed conditions. I love the car so as long as it stays close to this i am fine with it.

Now that it's colder out, I'm struggling to get 18mpg and that's 90% highway. MPG gets worse with colder temps, right? Or is it the other way around?

I average around 20MPG for my RWD RT, gotten as high as 26MPG on a long 250+ mile trip before, yours will be worse though since it's an AWD as AWD systems have worse fuel economy, the AWD RT is 17/23 vs the RWD's 17/25, only 20 miles is to short to get any sort of reliable mesurment anyways.

20 miles is too short for an average, but running 20 miles at a steady speed on the highway should tell me what the "best" mileage I should get is.

Set it on cruise at 70 and see what you get. you should get about 24. I have awd and like i said i get 21 and not on cruise. I just came back from Dc and got 23.5 with wify in the car at 70mph.

I have an 05' RT AWD, had her for 9 months and just passed 28,000 mi. on my Hemi "you do the math"
Stop and go you'll be lucky, very lucky to see 19mpg, than again i have a very heavy foot and only get 16.

Well i have had her for a 18months now and i must say i love the car. If i cruise at 73 and dont bother her i will get 21 to 23 and thats it. I have gotten as little as 15 had to get some where fast Washington to Pa in 3 hours. All in all 19 is about it on these cars.

I get 10 to 12.5 mpg 2007 AWD HEMI inferno red. I also must mention that I also snaped off the gas pedel the second week I had it...it had 1400 miles on it. The dealer said I brought a new meaning to lead foot. I also got in an accident at 1900 miles due to some slapass is a ford f 350 $13,000.00 in damages. Everything that got damaged was what would be changed to make it look like a SRT-8.....well guess what I did.
We are designing a remote mount twin turbo system for it as I type. Oh yea we just removed fuse 17 at 6:00 pm tue june 12...its now 6:22pm so what the hell am I doing still typing.

While I envy your having a trip computer, I wouldn't let it rule my life - well, then again...
I have an '06 RT RWD with 12K on the clock running Mobil 1 (since ~9K). Before that I had an '06 SXT RWD for as many miles on regular oil. Here are my observations:
*In the manual (okay, so it's not my observation) it states that to derive benefit from the MDS, speed should be kept at 65mph or less.
*And just an FYI, prior to their recent test revision, the EPA derived their highway mileage figure from a run at 50 miles per hour(!)
*Altogether, with the same type of driving (sensible - mostly), average mileage has come out straight up the middle of EPA estimates for both: SXT at 19/27 = 23 avg.; RT at 17/25 = 21 avg.
Whereas the 3.5 was a bit sensitive to passenger/cargo loads, the Hemi seems relatively unfazed by weight (as the 1mpg penalty hwy - none city - on your AWD RTattests; SXT AWD gets the same mileage!)
*I coaxed 30+ out of the SXT a couple of times and was disappointed that the RT with MDS didn't seem to want to go past 26. Truth was, I didn't have the heart (restraint?) to drive the RT in an optimal way for mileage.
*Driving a relatively level run for 145 miles on US-27 through rural Florida (mostly level) at 55 on cruise (except for Sebring and other towns), I consumed 4.8 gallons (of 87 octane!), obtaining my Holy Grail: 30 mpg from the Hemi.
Keep in mind that unless you affix a refueling probe and have someone on a tanker truck gingerly manoevre a drogue onto it while underway, your highway sample will be "contaminated" by non-highway driving (accelleration, from/to stations) at either end. This effect will be more pronounced on a shorter run; I went 200 miles at an indicated 3/8 tank consumed but then didn't fill up until I did a couple of errands, which sank what would have been a sweet number to a humble 26 mpg.
[Okay,I know:I'm hypermiling with a Hemi; call me perverse.]
Good Luck!

so far on the highway, i've found my 06 hemi r/t gets aroudn 22-23 mpg, but i have only actually figured out the mpg a couple times. in the city driving nice i pulled off between 14-15 mpg
