Default RE: ordered an 06 Dakota

I hope you have better luck than I am having.

Mine has been on order for over 6 weeks and the dealer informed me just yesterday that it may be an additional 4 weeks. The good news is that I can qualify for the new "Miles for Freedom" incentive package due to begin Monday and run through Jan 3rd. If it doesn't come by then, I will look to foreign manufacturers who want the business.

Keep us posted.

DETROIT — DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group said Thursday it will give two years of free gas to customers who buy a 2005 or 2006 vehicle before Jan. 3, following announcements of new discounts by rivals General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. Chrysler also will kick in two years of free scheduled maintenance and increase the warranty on mechanical parts to five years or 60,000 miles. Chrysler now offers a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. The offer, called the "Miles of Freedom" plan, begins Monday. Chrysler is excluding some of its hottest-selling vehicles from the plan, including the Dodge Viper, Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger, Dodge Sprinter and SRT8.

Yeah...And that still leaves the Crossfire, Crossfire SRT-6, left over SRT-4 Neons, & the Ram SRT-10 as well. You might want to push the Ram SRT-10 on him by showing him this thread. It's the perfect time to buy one.

Reasons why to buy a DC vehicle Now
*Two years of free gas to customers who buy a 2005 or 2006 vehicle before Jan 3rd.
*Two years of free scheduled maintenance.
*Increase the warranty on mechanical parts to five years or 60,000 miles.
*Chrysler now offers a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty.
*High cost in gas has lowered car sales, thus, car dealers must sell lower.
*Due to cold weather, theres low sales, thus lower prices.
*End of the month sales incentives for lower prices.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but a couple of things....

1. Is that by offering this program, they probably lower the rebate amounts since you're getting other goodies instead

2. Gas for 2 years is probably going to be a set amount already figured out. It's not just going to be unlimited gas. Mitsubishi offers the same thing (free gas) and if you read the fine print, it's all figured out how much you can spend on gas for the year....like a preset spending limit.

3. And when did the "Sprinter" become one of Dodge's hottest selling-cars???? LOL

Default RE: ordered an 06 Dakota

According to the published info and confirmed with my dealer, since I have a Dak on order, the cash rebate has been reduced from 2,000 to 1,000 plus you get the Miles of Fredom package. Well in my case, not really reduced but comes in the form of losing the 2k rebate and gaining a 1k discount + MOF package.

When I ordered my Dak, the rebate was 2,000. If I accept the new incentive, I am giving up 1,000 in cash rebate and getting the Miles of Freedom.

The newsmedia is calling this a "Detroit Price War" and is in response to GM and Ford's offers. When specifically asked about the free gas offer, "The company said the free gas will come in the form of a $2,400 debit card that can be used for anything. Alan Helfman, manager of River Oaks Chrysler Jeep in Houston, said the free maintenance is worth $200 to $300 and the extended warranty is worth $600 to $700."

Even if my dealer told me incorrectly about the cash rebate/$1,000 discount, the Miles of Freedom choice is still the better deal IMO. I believe he is correct since my article goes on to state that Chrysler slapped a $1,000 discount on all 2005 and 2006 vehicles after seeing how the October sales had slowed and will formally announce through advertisements the MOF offer to begin Monday (Nov 21st) and run through Jan 3rd.

Reference: Associated Press article dated Friday Nov 18, 2005 and published in a local newspaper on that date.
