I'm new here...I have a 1990 Daytona...2.5 non-turbo, all bark no bite. She's cherry red, bod is in awesome shape as is the interior. 117,000 miles on it. I doubt I will have it much longer tho. I've had it since October and have only been able to drive it a few times. It is a MONEY PIT! This isn't the forum, but I have one of those Daytonas that every mechanic town tells me is running great, yet the next day it doesn't start. I won't list the things I have replaced here....but anyhow.... I love MOPARS! I currently have the 90 Daytona AND a 91 Plymouth Acclaim 2.5 (179,000 miles on it) a 93 Dodge Spirit 2.5 (67,000 miles on it) I like the 2.5s! Past Mopars I have owned... 93 Dodge Spirit 2.5 that died with 181,000 miles 88 Dodge Reliant K car 87 Dodge Reliant K car 72 Dodge Monaco 64 Chrysler Newport (had push button tranny!) Oh...and I'm a girl, lol.

I feel you on that one, I had over $8,500 in repair in my '88 Shelby Z before I said screw it and sold it. It still needed more money put into it and it also needed the body, paint and interior taken care of as well. It had over 140,000 miles on it when I bought it and the speedometer/odometer only worked half the time, so I'm sure it was far beyond that and it only showed around 186,000 on it when I sold it, but I know it had to actually be over 230,000 at that point. If your having that bad of a time with it then you should definately let it go and get another car, I did. I then bought a '99 Neon R/T which had no problems. I sold the R/T so that I could upgrade and get my SRT-4, the second best car I've had just under my Roadrunner.

Of all the cars, Mopars & other, my 87 Daytona Shelby was the best, most-reliable car I've ever had... now I have an '89

How many miles is on your '87 Shelby Z? My '88 Shelby Z ran and drove perfect for the first two years I had it until one of the wrist pin clips broke and the wrist pin started knocking and scarred up the cylinder wall pretty bad, it had to be sleeved. Ever since then the high mileage caught up with it and everything else started to fall apart on it. I loved that car and I will always miss it.

I have a '87 Daytona with a 2.5L, I can't believe it still runs either. You'd be amazed.

I've got a '90 ES with a 2.5 Turbo I... I haven't driven it but like 5 miles, as it's had nothing but one issue after another since I got it (that's what you get when you pay $200 for a car) so far it's cost me under a grand and all I've had to do is get the ignition keyed, replace the flexplate, do a tuneup, and install front seats... now I gotta replace an oil pan gasket, and maybe then I can actually drive it!

The Talon TSI's are almost always AWD turbos, but there are some that are FWD. If he smoked the tires the way you said, then it had to be FWD, because if it were the AWD version he would have only left 4 one foot long patches and he would have been gone. The 2,800 lbs. guess is about right for the FWD version, the AWD is a bit over 3,000+ lbs., and the 3.0L Daytona is around 2,500 lbs. Good luck with converting it over to RWD and dropping the 383 in it, I had that plan/dream for my '88 Shelby Z except I was going to go with either the 400 I had or my 440 that's been sitting. Good luck with it, I eventually sold mine.

quote:
ORIGINAL: js87z Anyone know how much hp the stock internals can handle on the 87 shelby z t2? and what is the max boost that can be created with the stock turbo? I haven't had a chance to modify the dash in mine yet but i have gone through it and remove all the stuff that makes the inter quieter and other misc stuff that was not needed. after a get it running again to remove the stock boost gauge and put a after maket one and probaly a fuel air mix gauge as well. the inter. of the 90's is alot different though. roughly 300HP.. and a Garrett TII turbo should be good for 25 PSI of boost..
