Default Limited slip addative/fluids

I'm changing out my fluids in the differentials of my 01 Durago 4X4. Is gear oil, gear oil? By that I mean should I put in any gear oil as long as it is 80/90 and GL-5? Or do I put in Mopar gear oil? Same question for the limited slip addative. Auto Zone sells 7oz. of limited slip addative for $4. Mopar wants $7.50 for 7oz. Mopar also says to put in 7oz. per quart of diff. fluid. The Auto Zone product says to add 7oz. to the diff. No specification on oz. per quarts. I also want to change out the transfer case fluid. The book calls for ATF+4. Got to go through MOPAR to get that and I bet that's the ONLY fluid I should put in it. Right? Any opinions? Thanks all

I just changed my diff fluid. I got the anti-slip additive from the dealer (they told me I only needed one) and I used AmSoil for the fluid. I used AmSoil for the tranny/transfer case as well. You should use ATF-4 of some sort though, not ATF-3.

Have fun under there!

It's just a dirty job. I had to take my skid plate off to get to the tranny and front Diff. Good times!

I ended up doing the rear diff, front diff and the transfer case. The front diff was a pain the the you know what because there wasn't much room to turn the top three bolts. Other than that, the only difficulty was getting the covers off. The RTV had them on real snug and you had to rotate the front diff plate and cock it on weird angle to ease it out. Putting the fluid in was slow but not terrible. Anyway, it took about 3 1/2 hours and $25 to do everything. I know that sounds long but I don't rush through this stuff because I don't do it everyday.

Mine took me 10 min. I paid someone to do it front and rear for $40 in synthetic and I didn't even have to get dirty.[sm=drooldude.gif]
