Default cold air intake

I am thinking about getting a cold air intake...maybe the airaid or something different not sure yet. My question is, what is this noise that everyone keeps talking about? Can you hear a noise coming from the cold air intake? If so, how loud is it???

Remember the old days when cars had carburators? Remember the sound of a V8 engine with a 4 BBL carb, the noise it made when the carb opened up all the way and you could hear the air being sucked in?

THAT is what a cold air intake sound makes when you step on the gas, or over half throttle. It can get loud at upper rpm's.

If you don't want the noise, stick to the stock air intake and just put in a K&N repalcement air filter.

I like the sound a cold air intake makes.

I have the K&N Aircharger....I love it. The sound under WOT is amazing. Hard to describe, but its like a growl. grrrrrrrrrr. Really, it just sounds like a mean ass motor....oh ya it is...its a HEMI. I was going for a noticable, yet good sounding car...not loud. I pretty much achieved exactly what I was looking for.
For my exhaust, I simply had my rear resonators removed(left the main front muffler) and a straight pipe with some kick ass tips installed. Love it, I just bought the KN Aircharger, now I have a nice front and rear sound.
Get one. I'd recomend the AIRCHARGER. its a nicel built unit...looks pretty cool too!
OH ya...they really arn't cold air intakes, considering the intake is still in the engine bay..they are more of "open" intakes

I have the Mopar Performance (which is made by K&N) intake also. Paired with a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust they have a combined nice throaty sound. Just went to the car show in Anaheim today with my in-laws and I drove them in my new '05 Magnum. They did not feel that either the exhaust or intake rumble was annoying in any way. Heck I figure if the in-laws think it sounds good, it must.

Well, if in-laws dont complain, then that is definitely a positive. I am meeting up with someone on Tuesday to hear his car. I am located in the in Northern California...specifically the Bay Area... Have seen and heard a few with exhaust work done...just did not want to bother them to pull over and ask if I could go for a ride...lol!!!

Thank you for the posts and will update everyone with what I go with...

Thank you again

Minor point, but the Mopar intake is made by AEM, not K&N

Whats up man I just bought an 06 Magnum R/T and I want to put exhaust on. I dont want to spend 800-1000 dollars on the catback systems though. I was thinkning about putting two Flowmaster super 40 series mufflers on and removing the resonator which is in the middle of the car. Instead of having the mufflers at the rear I was going to put them where the resonators once were. Any suggestions and does it make a huge difference in sound and performance.(Can ya feel it)
Thanks for any advice.
Jason

The 'suitcase' muffler is the one in the middle, the ones at the back are the resonators. I took both resonators off mine right away and had custom tail pipes fitted with the OEM tips. Sounds a lot nicer, but still pretty quiet. Shop charged me $50 parts and labor. I see in the Mopar Parts Connection, there are now full tuned header pipes with collector available for a little over $1,000 for the Hemi.

Im going to just use a K&N replacement filter when it needs replaced myself. A friend had one of the cold intake setups with the exposed cone style filter on his Honda 2000. In heavy rain is sucked up enough water that the engine got hydraulic lock and busted out all the pistons and the dealer would not cover the damage under warranty. <( just a tip)
