Ok, I keep reading everyone ask What their trucks are geared at 4.10 3 something... whatever. My question is what difference does it make? I know nothing about gears.
Is there a way to change the gears or something to make my truck faster?

RE: GEARS FOR DUMMIES
The higher the number, the lower the gear ratio which is best for off-road. The lower the number, the higher the gear ratio, better for high speed highway use. This is in the differental gear housing, in the middle of your rear axle...[sm=smiley4.gif]
And yes, they can be changed out...[sm=smiley20.gif]

What's in your truck right now? I want to go to a 3.92 gear, it'll help me hook up on my low end once I install my M1 Intake Manifold, the 4.10 is nice, but we'll hurt me on the freeway, so I think I'll go to the 3.92...

You can see what gear is in your truck by looking at the rear of your differential. There is a sticker/tag on the right rear axle tube that has your gear ratio. Actually, it's closer to the back of the wheel than the differential. If you have a standard rearend, you probably have the 3.55 gear, and a 3.92 would make a huge difference in how the truck comes off the line and with general acceleration. If your real serious about performance and are going to change it anyway, you probably want to go with the 4.10. Remember to have you computer changed for the correct ratio. Good luck.

Also, be aware changing tire size also changes gear ratio......[sm=smiley3.gif]

I am swapping out my 3.55's for a set of 3.92's. The 3.92's seem to be the best all around set. Nice lowend and won't kill ya on the highway. Amanda and I must have good gear taste
Like Dusty said, changing your tire size also changes the gear ratio.. i run a 4x4 with 35"s on it, with 4.56 gear ratio, and on the trip home, after i had just bought my Hemi Quad cab, with the 20's (to get the 3.92) me and my dad drove right on 115km/h (70mp/h) and at ever fill up, my old truck was within $5 cdn or $3.72 us. Which i think isnt to shabby for a tall 4x4.
