I was wondering what the two measurements of the wheel sizes mean. For example, the 225 in a 225/60 wheel refers to wheel width right? What does the 60 represent? Also could someone recommend an all around good 225 tire. Snow is not a problem where i live so that is not a factor. Also will 225 tires rub?

225/40ZR18 My tire size.

225 is the width in millimeters from left to right i.e. outside of the car to inside the wheel well.

40 is the height of the sidewall in millimeters from the rim to the tread depth.

Z is the speed rating, H is a passenger tire, this car calls for Z rated tires.

R means its a passenger car

18 is the size of the wheel itself.

225 tires do not rub at all. I have them on my car. The BFGoodrich G-Force sports. I had Toyo Proxes 4 and fkn hated them to death. So I traded them and got the BFG's and I couldn't be happier. They're the best dry handling tire in their class, and in the wet their awesome as well. Their my recommendation.

225 is the metric width of the TIRE across the tread in millimeters. Manufacturing tolerances can be +/- 10 mm from one maker to another.
60 is the ASPECT RATIO. It is a percent value meaning the height of the tire from the rim (bead) to the tread is 60% of the width. So.... a 225mm wide tire at 60% height will be 135 mm tall (bead to tread).
The letters are the speed rating plus details.
The last number is the rim size (diameter) (in INCHES).
None of the numbers on the side of the tire tell you anything about your rim width. For example, you could mount a 215, 225 or 235mm wide tire on a 7 INCH wide rim. Only one of these may be ideal for your vehicle and that may also depend on what aspect ratio you choose as well.
If you want to know how wide the rim is, you either measure it or look for the size cast or stamped into it somewhere usually on the non-cosmetic side.
Lastly, yes I know for a fact 225 tires will fit, but they are very close. I have a set on my car. HOWEVER, I dont think you can get 225s on the stock rims, or at least you should not try. I went to an aftermarket rim that was wider and has a smidge more offset to the outside to be able to get the 225's on. I also went to a SMALLER diameter rim (16 inch) to be able to get more of a sidewall for shock absorption. Many would think this to be a step backwards from the lower profile 17's but I like the results A LOT. The tire I chose was a 225-55-16 Fuzion ZRI and is an excellent tire for the money. Gobs of grip and much smoother and quieter than the stock BF Goodrich's.

Is there any way that you could post a pic of this wheel and tire combo of yours? I think that's a great idea, and i would love to see how it looks.

Sorry - I had to bust, LilSpark.

I am running 225 45-27's too.

I have the motegi Traklites in 17x7 and Toyo Proxes T1-S. I am very happy with them. Better grip, quiet ride, Incredible in rain...I can't say enough good things about hte new setup.

Wordslayer; Yeah I will try to get pics posted (if it is really mine you want to see). I'm sure one reason my 225 is so close is the 55 sidewall. They fit well in all areas with no rubbing but are close to the front strut spring perch. That part moves with the wheel so the clearance dimension never changes. The wheels I got from Pep Boys on clearance for 49 bucks a piece are 16x7's and they look great. Pep Boys is going to all American racing and was unloading all thier Proline wheels. You may still be able to get some. I got the Fuzion ZRI's at a local Firestone dealer for approx 440 bucks mounted and balanced. I don't cringe over the railroad tracks anymore and that is what I wanted. The response is not as razor sharp but still very quick. The cloverleaf test reveals the overall grip is even better and the tires are quieter. I made very little performance sacrifice for gains in several other areas.
I will try to get some comparison photos posted.

YES! I do want to see it, because I have thought this through and I am kind of wanting to go with a philosophy such as yours, but for a slightly different reason. Let me digress:

I do not like a tire that doesn't have any "height" to it. In other words, I hate the skinny, thin looking tires that look like they barely cover the wheel. Yeah,,,,I know,,,,it is probably stylish, but I just hate the look of them, even when they are lowered.

In my opinion, tires should look "meaty." They should have a muscular look to them. I want the tires/wheels to have a "fat" look. I want the wheels to be wide and the tires to be fat. This will give the car more of a planted look.

From what you described, it sounds like you are describing the kind of look I am wanting, so I am very interested in seeing what yours looks like.

At first I was a little nervous, didn't seem any better. Now that I have done my own heat cycling the other day -(ask If you want- it was f-in awesome) the tires are amazing.

The lighter weight wheels made better turning response and braking. Maybe a little better response off the line, too. I gotta post some shots - they look great, too.

The Toyo's in 225, now that they are broken in, are fantastic. They have very progressive break away (I haven't broken grip yet up to .90g cornering) so you can really feel when things might get unsettled and keep it from happening. I had a bit of unsettled overrotation in the rear with the bald kdw's and the stiffer sways, and it is completely tamed, now. The car is totally neutral. I might not even lower it. I am only running 31.5 PSI, so it is only going to get better if I want to go higher.

I cannot say enough good things about the tires in the rain. They are the best rain performer I have ever driven. It is like it is almost dry after a downpour. I was launching pretty hard in HOM on wet surface and giving it full pedal in second with no spin. I can finally run RWD in the rain J/K.

The only way I could see better grip or performance is with a tire like an Azenis 615 or other near track tire, but we get too much rain around here to drive those every day.

The only concern I have is chunking if I track it at the road course since the tread is deep, but I am not going to get to the Circuits again this year, so no worries.

One more note. Silent at 45 mph and 90. No more road hum.
