Default Thinking of 6 power

Hello, I am debating over the 4.7 and the 3.6. I cant get over how close they are in HP. One question, can I get a R/C SLT with the v6? Or is this model, SLT, only available with the 4.7 and higher. I am looking to purchase one within the next month or so, and am wanting either a 03,04,05. Thanks!

I really have to say this, if you want a V6 truck...you are so much better off buying a midsize truck. Buying a fullsize truck is a joke if you want or are trying to get a V6 in it. Not enough power and it would still get crappy gas mileage. You're better off buying the 4.7L V8.

Honest opinion: Go buy a diesel and save yourself the hassle.....trying to worry about MPG and buying a truck is crazy....they all get terrible gas mileage compared to a car....but if you have to have a truck....get a diesel...they have better fuel economy

I have not once said that my truck is "under powered." Granted, it's not a Hemi, but it's power numbers are actualy better than many truck sof just a few years ago.

To answer your questions, the 3.7 is not available on the SLT; only the ST. The biggest differences between the ST and SLT is the SLT comes standard with the 4.7; power window, locks, carpet and chrome clad wheels. Also the SLT has the center console standard on the seat. On the ST it is just an arm rest, it does not open up. Also the ST comes standard with vinyl seats, the SLT cloth.

If you are looking for a basic truck go with the ST – even the v-6 is you want. I have hauled over a yard of topsoil (more than one ton) in the bed. The truck handled it great! Certainly I would recommend driving one to see if you like it. I love mine. I got mine based on 1) looks (like the red) and 2) 5 Speed. Love driving a manual; then Engine size was a very distant 3rd down the list.

Good luck!

I have built an ST with a 4.7L in the Dodge site, its only like $800 more. If you find one. Yes you dont get the convenience package, like cloth and the such. Hey, it all depends on what you want. I sometimes wonder if I should've gotten the V8, but I am happy with the V6. Gas mileage is about the same I think. I still average 17 mpg, with moderate driving 18. Then again I do 50city/50hwy. I also complaint about the ST not having the options of the SLT, but then I realized I might as well get the SLT and stop my whining. Like RedRam said go test drive both the 4.7 and the 3.7. I tell one thing, you are not peeling out with the 3.7 unless you mod it. Like the Reject said, its a heavy truck that probably will do better with a 4.7L if you want impress at the stop light.
I installed my own power locks and alarm system for $100, I say I saved myself some dough there. Vinyl, I dont mind it. Its easier to clean up and with tinted windows is not that hot. Even if you still find it hot, go buy a cover for $30 with the dodge logo.

I bought mine for the money, it was cheap, its a truck (3.7, 4.7, 5.9 its still a truck), its a 4 seater, its 6 speed (I love the overdrive helps on gas too). Maybe you want to use the money you save from the SLT to custom fit the truck to your like. But think it three times, or at least for the 3 days they give you after you buy it, once you own it, no place to complain.

Yeah, I test drove a V6, and was decently impressed with the power. But I have to say, my Mother's PT Cruiser seems to have more getup! I also drove a 4.7 crewcab for a week or two when my old truck was getting fixed. It diddnt feel like a V8, but it diddnt feel underpowered either. I wonder if the Reg. Cab makes that much of a difference in the power? And what of insurance? Do you think that the V8 will make it much more??

I've got an 04 quad cab 3.7L-auto ST. Just pulled a tandem axle trailer with two golfcarts on it and another golfcart in the bed of the truck. I'm in Phx, AZ and it pulled the same empty from Phx to Albq. NM as it did fully loaded from Albq. back to Phx. Just my .02 cents.

I have owned 4 vehicles, a 86 toyota 4runner (lifted and mud tire special), a pontiac sunfire, a gmc s15, and my dodge. I have never owned a V8, but have driven quite a few. The dodge is the most powerful vehicle I have ever owned, and it will beat my dads cummins (65 hp chip, exhaust, K&N) off the line, but on the highway his superior torque gets me. I am not dissapointed with my purchase of the 3.7, I like it really well, and I pull fairly heavy loads with it (24' boat, horse trailer, etc.) and it does fine, but I think next time I would break tradition and buy a V8, I was thinking the 4.7 when they upped it to 300 horsepower, but now theyve upped the hemi to 390, so I think I would go hemi, or just keep what I got. Sorry about the run on sentences

the v6 is fine with me, my only regret is that I didn't pay up and get the 4x4 but power wise it does what I need it to.

I just bought an low mileage 05 w/ V6 (last week actually) and am fine with the power. Going from an older (91) Cummins it's different for sure but still plenty of power for what I need. I never tow and rarely haul much for weight as this is my daily commuter.
No clue yet on mileage as I'm still on my first tank.
