Default Replacement Speaker

Hey guys,

My 2000 Durango R/T has a infinity sound system. a couple days ago, my driver side midrange/woofer went out. Does anyone have any aftermarket Infinity speaker replacement recommendations for a OEM Infinity system? I called the dodge parts house and they wanted $79 for a original Infinity 6 1/2 inch speaker replacement. I don't mind paying the $79 for the one speaker but I like to see what other alternative infinity speakers are out there that are just as good or even more durable. I do prefer an Infinity brand if possible to maintain a all around infinity system.

It is only stalk. If you don't put Infinity speakers back in, it won't change the sound. It will only sound better anyway.

I replaced my speakers in my 03 durango after I bought it new.
I replaced the factory speakers with Infinity (reference series 6002i )
They sound so much better then stock, and rock a lot louder, clearer.
Thats what I would recommend if your not looking to spend tons of
money.

Here is a earlier post about the same thing....

Will these speakers bolt on without any retrofiting and/or having to use mounting adapters. Also, will the OEM speaker connectors connect directly to the 6002i's without having to replace the connector with another head or something? Just trying to maintain factory as much as possible.

Did some digging on the net and finally found the infinity website! 6002's are history as they are old models I guess. Current model is the 6012i's. Not sure what the difference is other than possibly slightly higher power rating? Now they have a 6012SI version which is a low profile shallow speaker for the tight shallow locations.

DigiToxin, I assume the 6002 bolted in perfectly in the original OEM hole locations? But I assume you may have had to splice the speaker connector to connect to the new 6002's?

Here is the link to Infinity's website on teh 6012 series.

Love to have those Kappa's but I think using the factory amp, those Kappa's would be overkill.

On another note, Just out of curiousity, anyone ever upgraded the OEM infinity amp with an aftermarket infinity amp?

Here are the possible Infinity replacement speakers for the 98-03 Durangos and possibly Dakota's.

Default RE: Replacement Speaker

Which Infinity Amp would be a ideal or perfect replacment for the OEM infinity amp that can be mounted in the same location of the OEM infinity amp?

Kensai , Yes, I had to get new connectors and I also drilled new holes
in the door with sheet metal screws. The 6002i speakers had a different
mount pattern.
Not sure I understand how the 6002i are not much different from stock?

The 6002i series has a angled tweeter in the middle of the main 61/2 in"
speaker. The stock speakers had no tweeter and not near the watt handling.

The stock speaker is a component type speaker. Only offering midrange and low bass. The tweeter is mounted separately and is toward the top of the door. Be interesting based on what you said about the sound being better. Almost like having 2 tweeters per door now. I wonder how much better the sound quality would be if I went with Infinity's Reference 3 way 6.5 inch speakers instead of the 2 way's?
