I have a 04 stratus coupe sxt. dreamspeed2.com sells them. I bought one for my car and it works fine. I don't know if they sell it for the sedan though. You should check it out.

Forgot to post earlier but the CAI sold by dreamspeed2.com for the 2.4L stratus coupe does not come w/ a K&N filter. The filter is made by CP (whoever that is). Im replacing mine w/ a k&N xtreme filter. Also has anyone bought a header from rippmods for the 01-05 2.4 L stratus coupe? I want to know how much power increase I should expect w/ the auto tranny before blowing $650 on it.

i was very, very dissappointed with Ripp, as are many of the people who i have spoken with who have dealt with them....if you guys are looking for something that Ripp sells, I would suggest hitting me up first, and let me see what I can do. I have seen in person what is the most powerful RippMods RT coupe, and ive spoken with guys who are like you and i, who dont have tens of thousands to dump into fixing things...

kang...you got your stuff from jason vinz? did you make your eyebrows, or did he? how are the caliper decals?

kang25
10-10-2005, 06:33 PM
Yeah, I made the eyebrows, similar to yours but I shaped mine right around the turn signal, so its almost like an m. I'll post pictures soon. The calipers are sweet, it looks a lot like what comes on the vettes so its pretty nice. Putting them on required a bit of work, a blow dryer, and some patients. But he sends you like 5 different sizes and some with an arch with whatever you want on the decals. I'll try to get some pics up if we ever get a sunny day. The pipe "muffler" coming off of the back of your car looks a hell of a lot bigger then 2.5", did you just cut it after the axel and put a larger pipe? Do you know any shops in the metro detroit area that will tune the r/t's for a reasonable price?

BadStratRT
10-11-2005, 04:21 PM
i dont know what kind of tuning that youre really looking for...everyone that i have talked to with built RTs have told me that unless you have mods that GREATLY alter the stock air flow, such as intake plenum/head work or headers/cat work, tuning wont gain you much...where do you live, and what color is your car? i see a few nice looking red RTs a silver one with some vinyl, and a few black ones around here..is one of them you? i live in shelby twp.

my rear section is the muffler from my mirada, and it is alot bigger than 2.5", which is why my car has such a unique sound...i have alot deeper, and alot less nasal sound than many NA V6s..we simply remove the rest of the outlet from the muffler, and that is what is left..i believe that it was a dynomax header muffler...

let me know when you have some pictures up...i look forward to them!

I'm running an Eibach Lowering Pro kit on my Stratus. I like the look and the ride isnt anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I have pictures in my profile if you want to see the look. My car recieved a 2in drop up front and 3in the rear. I think it looks very nice.

My strat is black, and I live in Farmington Hills. I spend a great deal of time in the clinton twp area, m59 and van dyke to hayes area.

I am eventually going to add N.O.S. but seeing as a turbo or supercharge kit costs about 5k I am looking for any na mods that will boost horse. I have found a guy that will reprogram the chip from an eclipse to advance timing and he claims 15-25% gains in horse. I'm not sure that a) it's the same chip, and b) that the gains are there. I was also thinking about adjustable cams to advance the timing. With the intake and the exhaust, is there anywhere else under a $1000 a pop that I can go to get the r/t flirting with some mustangs? Thanks a lot as you have been very helpfull, and I'll get some pics if this damn weather ever clears up.

BadStratRT, you think you have seen the most powerful stratus coupe? Have you seen my car yet? ;)
I think it is the most powerful street driven strat out there, as this is my daily driver....and its soon to
be even more powerful. FWD [:@] Me ..... FWD can only go so far with traction, ya know.

My car is sitting in storage right now because im in college and i dont have insurance on it.
Right now i am home from college for christmas break, but my car is staying in storage
until spring break. Around that time i will take some pictures. I have older pictures before
i dumped money into this car, but it just looked like a stock stratus with 5% tints. Kind of
the same as it looks now.

I love the respect i get from this car. I pull into parking lots on cruise nights and im immediately
the highlight of the moment. Once parked next to 2 restored 67' camaro's (one with a late 40's
owner and the other with a mid 50's owner) and they were checking out my car and complimenting
me on it.

It looks completely stock from the outside, besides silverstar headlights, the 4" tip out of the muffler,
and my tinted windows. I even have the stock 16" rims on there. Obviously, i have slim to near no
traction right now because the tires arent wide enough, so im looking into getting 4 17x8.5's and then
2 16x9's(for drag radials). http://www.hwydeez.com has some really nice custom rims.

I have learned a TON about this car. If anyone has any questions regarding anything about it, fell free
to pm me, im me, msn me, email me, whichever you prefer.

btw.... im 18 years old, did all the work on my car (besides machine work on engine, heads, etc), and
paid every for penny of it. Not trying to brag at all ;)

BadStratRT
01-04-2006, 01:41 PM
no...i dont think that i have the most powerful RT...im stock...

do you have any dyno sheets or anything? ive seen a ripp custom RT that was putting out more than 400 hp...

theycallmeebryan
01-04-2006, 06:45 PM
there is only one other Ripped stratus that i know of that is putting down over 400whp, and he goes by
the name of rtspeed on the 2gstratus.org forums. He has stage 4 RPW cams and his car is not
streetable. He ran 11.9 at the track with it. The next closest was a guy by the name of K2buk on the
club3g forums. He was putting down 383whp at 18psi. Then there was neil (by the name of npeifer on
the 2gstratus forums). He put down 360whp at somewhere between 15-18psi (not tottaly sure on the psi)

The main thing holding these motors back from high HP numbers include a few things.

1. The stock ecu sucks.
2. The stock front and rear cams arent the same profiles
3. Stock, the rings arent gapped for boost.
4. The MAF isnt meant for forced induction
5. Forged internals
6. Distributor only provides effecient spark up to about 15-17psi.

In stock form, our heads flow surprisingly well! After a port an polish job, new cams and new valves, you'll
have some sweeeeet flowing heads.

Remember, our block is EXACTLY the same as the vr-4 blocks, except without forged internals, and the rings
arent gapped for boost. You can essentially try to do a DOHC swap onto our motors, however there seems
to be a fitment issue with the rear valve cover hitting the firewall. A little fabrication and that can be fixed.

Alot of 3000gt parts fit onto our car. Fuel rails, injectors, cranks, rods, pistons (SOHC), im pretty sure the intake
manifold fits, etc. http://www.3sxperformance.com is where i have been buying most of the 3000gt parts.

The profile on his cam is extemely aggressive. It idles around 1200rpm and its VERY rough. Neil's car
put down 360whp (that is npeifer). I met neil, hes a good guy ;)

hopupracing.com has products for the Stratus Sedan and Stratus Coupe. They also have a lot of eclipse stuff that will fit the Stratus Coupe because of the shared internals (engine, transmission etc.) They have stuff for the V-6 and 4 cylinder models (like mine).

02 R/T - Ivory white, polished wheels

Sony XPlod head unit - CDX-M8810: motorized face, 52x4, XM ready, mp3 ready, remote control
Infinity Kappa Series Perfect 6.1 component 6.5" woofers and 1" tweeters in doors
Infinity Kappa Series 3-way 6x9s in rear
Rockford Fosgate Limited Edition Punch 75 amplifier (bridged) with remote controller
Alpine 12" X-Type (competition quality) sub-woofer
Monster brand cables and wires
XM tuner
e-Dead sound dampening medium in trunk well and on trunk lid

No exterior midifications except window tinting. Would like information on custom grille inserts. Nothing gaudy, just subtle and a little cleaner-looking than stock. Also, thinking about 18" or 19" custom wheels and tires. Anyone have those on your ride that I can see pics of? Would like to see a bigger wheel/tire set up before buying. Not sure if bigger is better on this car...

Shopping for CAI. Looking at Injen and AEM. Advice? Short Ram or Traditional CAI? Not worried about hydro-lock (not that wet that often where I live), but are there other considerations? When I do go with custom intake, do I need to consider upgrading the throttle body? Had to on my wife's Expedition. Just curious if it was necessary or encouraged on this car.

Thanks to any who reply. Having fun reading and catching up, and like it so far.

May have pictures soon if I can overcome the bashfulness of my stock ride. It's clean, just stock. No big woop!

SnailBird i have 18" wheels on my 02 strat once i get a good pict ill be sure to put one up so you can take a look just give me a few days. i think it looks better than the stock 17" it appears to have a bit more of an aggressive look i also went with a bit of a wider tire than what i had stock.

BadStratRT and theycallmeebryan i just recently put a intake i got of ebay on my car it sounds great and has added me a bit of pep i love it i was just curious what you think about these headers i found on ebay for a 3.0l eclipse there about $400 after shipping. is the money going to be worth it as far as hp goes and what is that going to do to my mpg? hears that ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-Racing-Headers-00-05-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-GT-V6-3-0L_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33631QQitemZ80585873 58QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

the onyl thing that may be an issue is the hanger location. perhaps write them and ask? they will technically FIT the engine, but there may be some differences in the hangers and such...i dont think that there is a difference, but i would shoot them an email and ask first.

i know that a while back, someone on ebay was selling kits like that, but they came with more stuff, and cost more, but people were putting on the RTs and having success with them fitting and such.

kang25

It is a 75 hp shot, linked to the tps. ie it's an auto so. . .with the system armed if the pedal is down the nos is spraying. The system itself is a "dry" kit so it will be spraying the nitrous directly into the throttle body. The guy said fuel tuning is what will make a huge difference, as it should maximize power throughout the entire range, and when the nos sprays the ecu will essentially "dump" more fuel so the air/fuel ratio stays even when the nitrous is spraying. Thus greatly increasing the amount of combustion at one time. (safely I hope) Again he could have been selling me a load of crap as I never saw a dyno sheet or a quartermile slip, but I guess in a few weeks I'll know for myself right.

Another thought, our cars auto with good tires and basic cai and exhaust run mid 15's pending a good launch right? So fuel tuning should gain at least another second without the nos I would have to imagine. (The guys at aempower swear fuel tuning is the only way to go.) So that puts the car in mid/high 14's. With the 75 shot and current mods, you figure thats almost 300 hp for the entire run which like you said may gain a second, running into high 13's pending everything runs perfect. I could be way off, but the numbers look close. Even posting a stratus in the 14's would make me happy as hell and give the r/t some needed respect.

consider this...

with a different t-stat..CAI and catback...with the interior stripped clean, and with 15 inch low pro tires (which increase the final drive and improve acceleration) i only mustered a 16.1..with the new motor mounts, t-stat, cai, catback, track tires, and interior pulled (except with a full tank of gas, subs, amps, jack and tools in the trunk..i forgot about that crap) it still ran a 16.1...but that was with alot of extra weight, around 200lbs...all things considered, it may have gotten into the 15s. ive NEVER seen an auto RT run anywhere near a mid 15, as they are 16.7 ish, stock...the CAI and exhaust adds very little, and the best launch in the world wont cut it into the 15s. the 15" tires made a HUGE difference, and the mounts helped alot too

im not unfamiliar with nitrous, as i have run my buddy's sebring (95, 4-cylinder 5-speed) at the track quite a bit with a 55-75 wet shot. with the 55 shot, it cut about 6 tenths. i suppose that tuning the car with the piggyback may open up some more power, and as much as i would like to see you in the 14s, i dont know if its going to happen. granted, you have the TB that i do not, so i figure that you may pick up some power there, plus the tune, but it would have to be ALOT to work with a 75 shot to over a second...but i hope that im wrong...the RT coupe (or eclipse GTs) only dyno around 160hp at the wheels...which gives you about a 20% drivetrain loss with the automatic. those numbers come from russ from tearstone, who has an auto GT. figuring that same 20% drivetrain loss, with the 75 shot, youll be looking at 220 whp. the curb weight is around 3254...plus the driver...(i have no idea what you weigh)...so if you weigh 200lbs...thats 3454...plus fuel and any other little things (this is all purely conceptual)

when i put 3400lbs and 160whp into the ET calculator, it comes up with 16.1...which is pretty damn close to my actual times. so, if you take those numbers, and factor in the nitrous...it would be about a 14.6, but that is assuming that the car is perfectly tuned to accomodate the nitrous, and all other condition are perfect...those "perfect conditions" are the problem with a calculator...they assume that youre at sea level...perfect air, etc.

why did you chose a dry wet? a wet kit is far more safe.

on a side note, im in the process of trying to get some dimpled/slotted rotors...trying to avoid the "risks" of drilled rotors...and when your car is all finished up, id like to see it. you should try to come down to norwalk in september for the last mopar event, if i dont see it beforehand. norwalk is a nice fast track.

my mistake on the nos kit, it is wet.
I talked to the kid with the gt today, I missed one apparently huge mod. He said he has a high stall converter as well. Maybe that plus the tuning, plus the "my car is faster then yours" inflation would explain his sub 14 time. I also don't know what kind of difference "race fuel" would make as it seems all of these guys are buying these drums of "104 octane" gas. What does a lower t-stat do for power. That is something I can easily pick up at any autoparts store right? What about 8.5mm wires as well. I guess either he has more mods then he cared to share, was running a larger shot, or is full of s***. I was also thinking of adding the aem tru power pulley, not sure how much that would change, but it seems like that company is not fooling around.

ok...the high stall convertor would make a HUGE difference...id like to know where he got it? it was probably VERY expensive...

most race fuel would ruin your car...lol...most race fuel is leaded, which will plug your cat and back heat up into the engine...and ruin things. if you had a cat delete and a tune/ecu to deal with the lack of a cat, you could run the higher octane race fuel...with the nitrous, you will ALWAYS have to run at least 93 octane, and if that guy is tuned and is running no cats, he could very well be running a heavier shot and running 104 octane.

however, someone is making unleaded race fuel, but im not certain of the octane...i know that someone in our area has it...ill try to find out who. i think that torco makes it but im not sure. just putting 104 in your car is a waste of money, unless you have some sort of on-the-fly programmer to tell the car to respond to the better fuel...otherwise, a tune to run ONLY 104 octane would get VERY costly, and you would run poorly if you didnt have the 104 in there.

8.5 plug wires couldnt hurt, but dont expect much out of them...and the reason that i went to the slightly lower T-stat is because a slightly lower engine temp will let the car run better, and cool down faster at the track and such...but again, its not a big power added at all.

If I see him at the shop next time I'm there I'll ask about the stall converter. Problem is the kid is kind of a deuchbag. I'll see what the guys from the shop can dig up for me as well. I know your favorite company ripp has them for around 350 I believe, and I thought I saw some on exileracing.com, but I'll look more into it. If I'm not mistaken there are different types with different (I guess shift points) do you have any experiance with these, as I have no idea how they work, or what to look for, if there are different styles or aggressive levels?

BadStratRT
06-19-2006, 09:10 PM
the torque convertor has nothing to do with the shift points. the way that a fluid driven automatic trans works is that between the "gears" in the transmission and cranktshaft, there is a drum filled with trans fluid, and at low rpms in gear, the wheels arent turning, as the trans gears arent being turned but that drum still it turning. the drum is designed to spin with the crank, and at a given rpm, the convertor "engages" and begins to turn the internals of the transmission. when you buy a "high stall" convertor, it takes more engine rpm for the TC to "engage" and turn the trans internals...thats all that it does.

the stall rpm of most modern street cars is aroundf 2000 give or take a few hundred rpm. having a more aggressive convertor, like the 4000 stall in the mirada helps because when i launch, im well into my peak rpm range. for instance...the mirada is making peak power from 3300-6500rpm, which is where the camshaft is in its peak range so when i launch at 2000 rpm (stock TC) i am accelerating at less power as im not into the desired range for the camshaft..however, once i get to 3300, the car would REALLY take off...now, with the 4000 stall, im well into my powerband before the car moves.

with the RT, the powerband is a little lower, obviously...i would say that it really pulls well around 2500-2800 or so. so if you have a 2500 stall, youre in (or much closer to) the peak powerband. so a more "aggressive" torque convertor allows you to launch at a more ideal point in your powerband, but at the same time, its not good for fuel mileage...because where a normal car is already accelerating at 2000rpm, your engine has to rev to 2500 before the car will move. this also causes the trans to build more internal heat, so like the mirada, an aftermarket trans cooler helps to avoid burning the trans out faster than usual.

as for ripp, all i see is quiafes and clutches...how about a link to the stall? i know that exile makes ALOT of them for the 1st gen coupes, but i havent seen one for the 2g coupes...i was just looking, and i cant find one for the 01+?

Here is what I was looking at, not ripp sorry.

any of these (http://catalog.exileracing.com/)

2800 street/track stall converter (http://catalog.exileracing.com/product_info.php?products_id=610&osCsid=d477ea4bc4944f2950d92e9bb365fe68)

It says they are available for v6 so this should work in our app. right?

if it fits, it would make a big difference...im sure of it. however, im not certain that it will fit a 2g coupe, as they specialize in the 1st gen coupes...and they even mention 95-96 models....try writing them if youre thinking about getting one. i wrote them about some rotors last week, and still havent heard back...:(

HI ALL, IM NEW TO THIS THING. I JUST BAUGHT AN 01 R/T. I SEE A COUPLE OF YOUS HAVE THE PILLAR GAUGE CLUSTER. WHERE CAN I GET THIS FOR MY CAR? IM ALSO LOOKING TO LOWER HER A BIT, ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO ANY GOOD KITS OUT THERE, THANKS

kang25
06-21-2006, 12:29 AM
As for lowering, most of the r/t owners I've consulted including myself went with eibach pro kit, there is a sport kit that lowers a little more, but the pro kit did a nice job of eliminating the gap between wheel and body without going with a larger wheel to limit the already terrible turn radius of these cars. Thumps pics show them pretty nicely with stock rims. They claim an inch and half, but it's more like 2 in the front and 1 in the back, just from standing back and looking that is. They should run under 300 no matter where you look, I think I went right off the eiback usa website and paid like 275 after shipping.

For the pillar go to ur local auto place like auto zone or whatever is around u and they usually sell a universal pillar u just have to trim up then go to speedhut.com and u can custom design ur gauge pods to match the color scheme of ur car they also let u design ur actual gauges too

Short answer...no. They do not exist and probably never will since they don't even make the car anymore.

Aight guys i got a 04 R/T completely stock, Its got the auto-stick trans. I was just wondering what would get the best results for the cheapest amount of money, i've always wanted it to be faster and now that i am making some money i can afford to put some money into it. if anyone has any ideas let me know. i found a supercharger from rippmods, but it said it only fit the 01-03 R/T. Will that fit? or do i want to buy from them b/c reading through i haven't heard anything good from them. any ideas would be great.

The 04' R/T has the same engine as 01-03. Intake and exhaust will add very little to this car's performance. We were cursed with a CPU that is too smart for it's own good. This is not the best car to buy for modifying.
