I got my D back from the shop about 2 weeks ago. I have the 5.9L. I just had the motor bored out 20 over, roller cam, heads ported and polished. Then I had the trans rebuilt and had the pressure upped and had a B&M shift kit installed. Then I had the transfer case rebuilt. And a new cat back Magniflow exhaust. Thats right a bran new truck with balls. Well I've had it in the shop two times to have the shift kit readjusted because every time I took my foot off the gas and put it back on the motor would over rev the trans. Well they couldn’t figure it out so I called B&M myself and started to tell them my problem well he jumped the gun and said this is a 1998 I said yes he told me that they don't make anything over a 1996 yet.

So I called the shop and asked what they had in my truck!

Well it's a B&M for a 518 not my 47-RE. Well duh! I hate people working on my truck!

Well there putting in a Transgo kit today and I hope they got the right one! I had to tell them that they got to order the one that is for my trans not just one for a 518 which is gust a generic term for the size of trans. Well I'll get back with my results after.

(Moral of this story) Don't trust anybody with your truck and always check up on them.

Sorry to hear about your truck. I had a similar experience witht he body work on my D after my crash. took a couple extra weeks becasue pople couldn't or didn't do there job efficiently or correctly.

What Durango do you have and how do you like that Magnaflow exhaust? I am thinking about one for my 5.9L 2000 D. Is the sound inside like the factory or is it louder? I am hoping for factory or quieter a bit. I like the rumble but my wife is not so thrilled. Also what mpg and performance gains have you noticed? (Of ourse you changed a lot of peoformance things so it may be hard to tell.)

I've got the 5.9L. I edited my post. As for the magna Flow, I love it and would do it again in a heart beat. If you don't like the loud sound go for the 24 inch muffler that is what I did. It is louder but not buy much. It sounds hot and meaty.

So far I've not noticed any gas milage difference. Remember I had my heads ported and polished so it dumps more fuel into the pistons. If I hadn't done that I think I would have gotten better gas mileage. But I'm not complaining I get 18 on the freeway and 13.5 in the city.

Holy Cow batman. Best I get with a stock 5.9L is 12city and maybe 13-15 hwy. I'm not flogging the beast either. I think the CAI and Magnaflow are going to have to happen quick. Bummer part is that we just got a great deal at work on some product and I would have to forego the deal to get the parts. Bummer not having more spendable income. thanks for the tips.

As to the Magnaflow. You referenced the 24" muffler are there other choices as part of the Durango kit? I would assume that it's apay for what you want affair anyway, but I did notice the kit on Magnaflows website.

I'm not kidden around. I just got off a trip. I filled it to the rim (in tell I saw fuel in the opening) and went down the freeway. I pushed a 15-20 MPH head wind about 3/4 the way. The next town I stopped at for fuel was about 250 miles away. I averaged 70-80 MPH the whole time. I did the same type of fill up and I got 15.6667 MPG. The next town I got fuel at was about 135 miles away. I got 17.315 MPG and went over a lot of hills and through a lot of passes. Now on the way home I was going at 85 MPH and I got crappy mileage about 11 MPG.

Now the Magniflow 24" muffler is the biggest I think and anything smaller is more noise. No extra power at all, just sound. I woudn't put anything else under my truck. Mr. Muffler did my work and I did a cat back system and got it for $250. Great system and they have the best I have seen. Now I also put a full tune up including a full tune up with OEM parts. Cap and rotor, wires, and OEM Champion plugs.

Thnaks for the info. I never thought you were fibbing on the numbers. I just want some of that kind of action. I took my truck to a trianing event lst week on a fressh tank. that first 100 miles was all freeway and some of it heavy traffic but I was pulling about 15.6 according to the onboard computer( I dont overly trust those by the way). As I have gon through that tank I'm back to the 11.6 -12.1 range. I think CAI is next up then cat back. Still need to figure out a way to pick up the other good deal too if I can. Thanks for the help.

Hey do you think it's better to go with a major chain type muffler shopp that is a Magnaflow dealer or a mom and pop that is a Magnaflow dealer? My heart says give money to the little guys but that isn't always a good thing.

I feel the same way when it comes to the mom and pop shop. I don't think it would mater ether way. Just make sure you can get a warranty, and make sure they will be there to fix it if it breaks. My on board computer says that Im getting 17 MPG on the open road, and it is pretty close. Also I was running 87 octane. I would like to try it with 91 octane, I've always gotten a bit better on higher octane, plus it has a lot more power and runs smother. Have the shop do a back pressure check on your catalatic converter when you are doing your system to make sure you don't have any. Might as well have everything checked out?
