Live in the Mile High city the air is thinner than most people have. I use 87 since none of the gas stations in our state even offer 89, only 85, 87, and 91. Since we have less oxygen at this altitude, the compression is slightly less than at sea level (for which the manual was written for) using the lessor octane works out to be the right one to use.

I would use 89 octane. it is the best bang for the buck, and it won't hurt the engine. The 87 octane has been known to have alot of trash in it. I worked at a pipeline transfer company. We would test all of the samples for impurities.

89 octane is especially recommended if any modifications have been made to the vehicle.

I also mix it up, 89 and 93 are the most prevalent we have around here.

As I´m writing this there is a Charger somewhere on the ocean on its way to Sweden.
My question is what fuel I shall use in it ?
Here in Sweden we can only choose between 95, 98 and "99 V-power" and I don´t
know to compare them with your lower versions.
Can anyone of you reading this straiten this out for me ?
Regards Mike

Hi, Swede!  Welcome.

Geez.  That's a good question.  I guess I would go with the mid-grade and see how it works.  Hopefully, someone can chime in here and give you a better idea.

I ran 87 in the charger pre-mod, and didn't have any issues.  Once the exhaust and CAI were installed, I noticed some pinging.

Since then, I have run 93, and the problem has completely disappeared.  As has been mentioned before, the higher octane won't hurt, it's just a bit more expensive (about $2.00 a tank).  So not a huge investment....  I have noticed that different brands seem to run better than others -- BP seems the best so far.

I am only getting about 19 mpg in overall driving conditions (although I do a good bit of highway driving, it is probably evened out with the occasional acceleration at WOT).  Overall, that's not too bad, I think.

Anyway, the dealership told me 93 was bad for the car.  Yea, right.
