Default Stock O2 Sensor

I have a 98' 3.9L sport w/ 39,000mi.
Ok I've heard that the stock O2 sensor runs the engine too rich causing the catalytic converter to break down quickly. The 8 year warranty will run up next year and my dealership is about to replace it

I want to know if I should replace it after I get the converter replaced or "if it's not broke don't fix it?"
