Default trans went out

77k - 5.2L - owned 31 days (1 over warranty) - of course it's sunday!

day before had problem shifting to OD - and then stuck in 2nd

last night all is fine until @ 65 mph the tach goes to 4,800 RPM and the engine died - would not restart - reset computer by disconnecting battery - got engine started, but NO transmission (fwd or rev)

no leaks or noises- trans fluid does not smell and no debris either

confused, and don't want to take to shop for expensive treatment - it has to be electrical or vaccum related?

i need my truck NOW - any help please!

Sounds likethe computer... or part of it. Since it's still fairly new (I got that from your email to me... you just bought it...), go to the dealer and explain what happened, your 30th day of warranty fell on a Saturday and it happen then, here's the tow ticket to prove it. See where it gets you. Don't be irate, dealers *hate* that. If you come in cool, they will be more likely to work with you.

My trans issue was the Spring on the trans linkage... got a new tight spring, no more sticky gears.

It could be the PCM, or the Trans Control Module... or both... or the computer...? What year is it?

Hehehe... we are talking simultaniously through email... LOL!

Yes part of the computer can go, then the whole thing needs replacement... the PCM could be the problem definately.

The computer is $$, get that verified for sure before doing it.

I also mentioned the Mopar Performance PCM as a replacement.. better HP (but must run Premium Gas) and that could be the issue... that's about $300-$350 at a dealership... But be sure before you buy... You can get a remanufactured regular PCM from the dealer too... that's $200-$250.

ok - will stick to forum only

with other forum about "trans gear stuck in 2nd"

could the speed sensor have gone on the blink, and then later took out the PCM?

wish we could get another opinion - really need to fix today

funny thing, i just towed trailer 1500 miles 2 weeks ago - not a lick of trouble

what is the best for mileage and power without going to premium gas?

hypertech - superchip? - it sounds realy asperated, like it needs more air - thought of getting those turbo fans for the intake?

ran a trip and logged 17.8 MPG, put K&N filter - took another trip and got 16.2 that was crazy, so i reset the computer and have not checked it - now trans

The speed sensor shouldn't be able to 'take out' the PCM... but I suppose it could have been the cause for the Trans not shifting.

Well, you can't have the Mopar Performance PCM without Premium gas... but the Remanufactured one is just like a brand new one...

I personally have the Mopar Performance Chip... I love it! LMAO!

started truck, there is a something of a light "rod knock" sound that appears to be coming from the trans case -

disconnected batt - restarted - still knock, and no gears

also pulled 3 wire clips from passenger side firewall - i assume this is the computer - yes

visually inspected trans - no leaks, etc... and no smell/debris in trans fluid

can i assume i need to have dealer check it out on monday - otherwise we are guessing which part is blown - or if it is actually the trans

Yes, have a dealer check it out on Monady... I'm not sure if it's a component or the trans itself. I'm confused because the engine dying too... shouldn't have a thing to do with the Trans... that's why I thought PCM...

LMK what happens!
