Hello everyone. Ordering a new 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie. I was wondering on the option WPG (20" x 9" Wheels) vs. TTT (P265/70R17 OWL). I know with thw WPG option you also need to get the DMH (3.92 Axle Ratio). I'm not sure I need the 3.92. I have a boat that weighs around 4500 lbs. and thats about all I tow. I like the Off Road Look. Are the 20" x 9" Tires hard to get? I notice they don't come with white lettering. If I get the TTT option should I get the DMH also?

Thanks!

Well... I think the 20X9 are much cooler... LOL! I would go with those just for that reason. ;) I don't think the 20x9 Tires would be much harder to get...

Here's my 2 cents worth.  If you are going to tow, the 3.92 rear will provide better performance for towing.  However, fuel economy is going to suffer some over the 3.55 rear.  With regard to 20" wheels/tires.  Yes they look cool, but I understand the ride is not as smooth, and if you live in an area prone to snow, I would opt for the 17".

I just ordered a new 2004 SLT Sport Quad Cab three weeks back.  I opted for the 17" wheels/tires.  The tire shops in my area are not all capable of handling 20" wheels, so that would limit where and what brand tires I could buy in the future.  It also snows where I live, and I need 4WD to get out to the main highway from my house, so I felt the 17" size was a better choice for me. - Dave

There are a lot of myths regaurding the 20" wheel/tires. Myth #1: tire are expensive and hard to find. The Goodyear Wranglers that come with the 20" wheels are available through most tire dealers (discount tire has them online and can get them to most locations in 1 to 2 days if they daon't have them in stock) price for the 275/60R 20 is $147.99. The Goodyear GS-A tires for the 17" wheels (245/70R-17) are $123. Myth #2: the ride is not as good as the 17" wheels. First of all we're talking about truck and it will ride like a truck with any factory wheels/tires. I actually thought the ride was slightly better with the 20" wheels but ride quality is a matter of opinion. Then there's the myth about performance in the snow. It's just not true. Come on, the truck weighs almost 5400 lbs (quad cab hemi 4x4) the tread on the tire is good enough for snow driving. I hope this helps.

p.s. :if it isn't too late, DO NOT CHOOSE THE INFINITY STEREO OPTION!!! i'll leave that to another post.
